UPC - Weak Signal

Has anybody had any success in getting discounts from UPC as a result of deteriorating television service?

I had an engineer out yesterday as our digital tv service has been gradually deteriorating over the last year. It started with a group of channels pixellating, i.e. extreme sports, sky news, comedy extra etc, until a couple of weeks ago we lost those channels completely, along with Eurosport, Nick Jr and others, and the pixellating moved onto some main channels, like TV3, ESPN, Sky Sports News and loads of others.

The engineer said he couldn't fix the fault as the infrastructure in my estate is banjaxed and urgently needs to be upgraded to the fibre power wires. He said the signal coming into the house is barely enough to support broadband and 2 tv connections (signal of about 28 when you go into the help menu). He explained the gradual deterioration is a result of water seeping into the wires and its driving him nuts because he has a call out into our estate at least once a day.

Anyway, he did a quick temporary fix rerouting a signal from somewhere to the digital box, which has lessened the problem but i'm still without the original problem channels. Should say that Broadband is rock solid and i've no issues there.

Anyway, I don't want to pay for the full service anymore, as I'm not getting what I pay for. I used to actually do watch extreme sports quite a bit when I could!

Anyone any similar experience and succeeding in getting them to offer something in return?

No way I'm switching to Sky btw, because I like ESPN and Setanta, subscribing to these would just rocket a sky bill, along with multiroom costs for the bedroom - the 17 analogue channels with no extra cost are actually perfect for the bedroom . Feck that.

    Thanks for reading!

    Hi mollser,

I haven't got to the point of looking for discounts, but I could have wrote your post as I am having the exact same experience, except that no technician has offered me any explanation as yet.

I wonder are we in the same area? I am in Blackrock in Dublin.

Hey Dubsaab, I'm up in Leopardstown. Haven't bothered looking for a discount yet, TV3 started skipping again last night.

Was just looking at the network upgrade map - this has been updated and I'm right in a blue zone for upgrading this year. Good news at least!
