I am considering buying a skoda yeti and took a test drive today. I then sat down and went through the figures. With metallic paint (€500 extra) and a spare wheel - note this doesnt come with the car and he wants €475 extra for it and a jack ( a joke i know ) and allowing €3,750 for a scrappage car he is looking for €22,000 all in. (the car is listed at roughly €24,500 for the spec). I offered €19,000 chancing my arm and he said not a chance. I would be preapred to offer more but what do yous think about it?

Do not pay €475 for a spare wheel anyway, if you buy the car drive straight out of the showroom to the nearest scrapyard and pick one up for easily €50.

so 2.5k off approx list of 24.5k

I think 10% is not bad off normal list of a new however would agree that the spare tyre charge is a rip off

if I was buying a new car and paying that much for it I'd expect a jack and spare. who do they think they are? Michael O'Leary?

Possibly one of the new Greenline models. From their website ...
A reduction in the weight helped reduce fuel consumption; instead of a full spare wheel, there is a tyre repair kit and the standard fittings include wheels with tyres that have a lower rolling-resistance force.

If you don't have a spare wheel, you don't need a jack either.

Probably comes with a can to reinflate/seal a puncture elsewhere in the EU.

I'd ignore the jack and get a decent small trolley jack from a motor factors- easier to use though perhaps not to store. Just have a mechanic show you where the car is strong enough to be lifted from.

The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It's to promote critical thinking.

There probably a bit more room to haggle there but not to the extent of 19,000 from 22 000.
Theres a supply and demand issue with the Yeti at the minute so the dealer may not be afraid to hold out especialy at this time of the year.
On the other hand, if the dealer wants your business partculary with servicing etc he might (but don't hold your breath) throw in the spare wheel kit for free along with a free first service. Shop around the other skoda dealers in your area and beyond.
Is the car you want in stock? If not there now appears to be a considerable waiting time for them (especialy the diesel).
The 475 seems about right (just checked other manufactures sites) for the spare wheel and fixings does that price cover the raised boot floor and fixings.(I presume it does) I,ve always had a bee in my bonnet over the extra charge for metallic paint.
Have you priced other cars in your short list and compared specs on these?
Remember the boot in the Yeti isn't very big compared to cars like the octavia.
Also the Ford focus is due to be replaced this year so there are well speced models of the 1.6TDi going for good money. Its also 104 to tax.
The Kia Cee'd is also good value at the minute and has a 7 year warrenty.
If you do go for the Yeti (as I did last year and haven't regretted it) it handles well and is well built.
Ride quality in mine (with 17" wheels compared to 16" on the Greenline)is just acceptable on concrete roads etc but I was spoilt after coming from an Octavia.
High up driving position and good boot loading height are also plus points.
Have a look at briskoda.com for owner reviews etc.

I'll have a look at my Yeti pricing next week, but there isn't 10% discount available on Octavia's or Superb's, so I'd expect less on the non-volume products in their model line up.

€475 for the spare wheel kit is about average. We've paid around that for Mazda's and 5 Series. There are quite a few bits required - I was surprised at the amount of parts you need, but when looking at it, they are all required.

Unfortunatley I lost the list of bits I had on e-mail for the Mazda 6.
