    Hi guys,

So we've all been hit by pay cuts unfortunately and as much as I hate to admit this and I've tried I do find it hard to know what exactly I should be cut and for what etc

At the minute I'm being cut about 590 every fortnight, this is my 3rd year teaching and I'm on an RPT contract. Does this seem right? I've sat down and talked it to death but noone seems to know? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank youc

    €590?

    Are you sure?!

Do you mean €59 or €50 by any chance?

    I wish it was 59 or 50 :(

It's definitely around that with every pay cheque.

So how much were you getting paid in the first place?

Anyway, sounds like the Dept don't have your tax credits for 2011. It sounds like you're on emergency tax. You need to get on to Revenue to send your credits over to the Dept.

Alternatively, you can ring the Dept in Athlone to do it for you.

Our teachers all got cut between €30 and €70, that sounds mad you'd be cut that much. We wrote letters to local politicians about it cos we're so mad. People getting money cut for working hard when others get paid to sit and do nothing!

I'd say the OP means total deductions every two weeks.

I'm in a similar situation - 3rd year teaching, my tax credits are correct, yet with tax, pension levy, universal social fund, PRSI etc., I'm being stopped a massive amount every payday, even more than the OP.

Although that could be because I'm full-time, so therefore have more annual earning potential = higher percentages of tax and other deductions. If the OP is on a PRT contract, chances are they are on less than 22 hours.

No I'm on 22 hours as well :/ I was just wondering if it was right to have that many deductions....I guess so. Thanks anyway :)

After reading your other posts, your first post is a little bit sensationalist if you don't mind me saying. We were all paying tax, PRSI, pension levy before the new tax bands came in for this year. Your pay hasn't been cut by €590, you're paying tax, and more of it because of the widening of the tax bands.

€590 sounds about right for someone on full hours (assuming point 5 of the scale) paying tax and other deductions fortnightly.

It would have been more accurate to say that you are down in your fortnightly wage by approximatley €50-55 which I'm guessing is the case.

Me, my income has been reduced by €67 a fortnight.

Didn't mean to be sensationalist. 'Cut' was probably the incorrect word to use there. I was not assuming I am the only one who is being taxed etc I said I was unsure if it was correct and was simply asking for some advice. My fortnightly wage has been cut by 100 euro. I get that, I was just inquiring about the other deductions.

    Thanks everyone for your help!

€100 a fortnight seems like a lot to have your pay reduced by given that you're in your 3rd year. I work with people who have been working a lot longer than you and have been reduced by less than that.

I've been working for the same time as you and I'm down €52 a fortnight.

Got paid on Thursday and the difference between Dec and now is 93 euro a fortnight....I have been teaching for 13 years (not all the same school, 10 in current school)..I must admit I was shocked, I assumed it would be about that monthly not fortnightly
