John Goodman has joined the cast of Damages as Season 4's new villain, TVGuide.com has confirmed.
Goodman will play the CEO of a mysterious military contractor who is put on trial in a wrongful death suit.
"John Goodman's phenomenal body of work speaks for itself. And we've been huge fans of his for years," executive producer Todd Kessler told USA Today, which first reported the news. "It's a real thrill to be adding an actor of John's extensive range and talent to the cast of Damages. We can't wait to pit him against Glenn Close and Rose Byrne in our fourth season."
The fourth season of Damages will air exclusively on DirecTV. It is slated to premiere this summer.

    http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/03/22/judd-hirsch-joins-damages-exclusive/
The upcoming fourth season of Damages has added veteran actor Judd Hirsch in a key role.
Hirsch (Numbers, Taxi) will play a former mentor of Patty’s (Glenn Close); a man who took her under his wing during her first job out of law school. But his situation has changed greatly over time and he now spends his time “at the bottom of a bottle.”

I didn't realise that DirectTV had rescued Damages after FX cancelled it.:D

Perhaps we should have an un-cancellation thread.

Thank god for DirecTV because they saved one of the best drama series on television, after FX cancelled the series after three seasons. Below are the first clips. Enjoy!

For the first time in the show’s history, producers have the freedom to end Season 4 (premiering July 13) with a doozy of a cliffhanger since DirecTV has already picked the show up for a fifth season.
But exec producer Glenn Kessler tells me they plan to stick to their successful finale formula, wherein “we bring closer to the central case but [tease] that there’s more in the relationship between Patty and Ellen.” Kessler, meanwhile, says he already has an endgame in mind for the eventual series finale. “It revolves around the Patti-Ellen relationship,” he reveals. “We always envisioned the series as being an exploration of that relationship, and we have a sense of what the endpoint of that relationship would be. And once we know we’re going to end the series, we will end that relationship in a way that’s satisfying and hopefully enjoyable for the audience.”

For fans of Damages (Glenn Close, Rose Byrne and Ted Danson and John Goodman - yes you read that last name right), its will be back on air in the USA on the 13th of this month (July).

I enjoyed the first three series, Looking forwards to see where they go with the fourth.

    The official website: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/damages
Two years after the Tobin case, Ellen has moved on with her life. Now an attorney at her old mentor's firm, she's content with her cases and colleagues. Deep down, however, she wants a bigger challenge. When she discovers her friend has been through a traumatic experience while working for High Star, a private security firm hired by the U.S. government to carry out special missions in Afghanistan, she suspects foul play and asks Patty for help. Patty knows that trying a case against High Star can make Ellen's career. Or ruin it.

Yeah I'm sure the moderators would love us to start posting links to download this illegally. That would go down a storm alright!

Not looking to download illegally, just want to watch legally - sorry if I wasn't clear on that! I'd pay for DirectTV if it was available here!

Yeah I don't think iTunes have a license to sell it. Which is a major bummer for us.

Did anyone watch the season premiere?
It was pretty underwhelming. They are trying to spin the Patty-Ellen routine in a different way by making it more of an equal partnership but it didn't seem right, tbh.

Then there was the issue of Patty taking care of the child which again didn't ring true. It felt quite tacked on.

Finally while it was only the first episode the storyline already felt a little weak. The High Star plot seems to be heading towards the usual congressional hearings/suicide arc these things generally take.

Just watched it there. Very happy to have it back. Slow start but that's typical of the show. I would say that last season was weak in parts and this season might suffer likewise but we need to get to know the new characters.

I liked it. Ellen is finally turning into Patty. Absolutely head over heels for the cast this season too. I'm surprised Dylan Baker hasn't been headlined as much as Goodman's guest appearance. Then again, Messina is the main case "victim" and he didn't even make the opening credits.
    Anyone else miss Tom?

Liking Dylan Baker in this. Generally enjoying it as a whole and they've made a good reason for Ellen and Patti uniting again on a case.

Richard stop bumming me out! There's no way they'd cancel it after picking up for season 5, and I refuse to believe otherwise.#RemaininHopeful

As for this weeks episode. INTENSE!!
Really hope AC is the one under the bag at the end, or Baker's character
Really loving this season so far. Going be episode 4, this is how I'm currently ranking the seasons.

    1. Season one
    2. Season four
    3. Season Three
    4. Season Two

Pity this has slipped under the radar, as it's been a very solid season.

Having just wrapped up the finale last night, resolving red herrings and all, this is perfectly primed for Season 5 and I for one sincerely hope Direct TV pull through on this one, because it's about time for the Patty/Ellen legal showdown we've been waiting for since season 1 (I've always felt season 2 was anticlimactic in that regard). Overall, very happy with season 4, and hasn't suffered from moving networks at all.

Perfect storm of a finale, and well worth hanging in for, especially now you can watch the season en masse.

Have yet to check it out the finale, but I've enjoyed the rest of the season thus far. The cast really made it something special.

Great series, this is a top show that gets little attention

Excellent finale and all nicely rapped up for Season Five.
    Last ten seconds were great

On another note, this is the first episode I remember swearing, Ellen was cursing at Patty over the phone.
Surprised me, not often you get that on many American TV shows and Damages never did it before

Yep, very pleased with this season. Initially I was a bit dubious, thinking it'd be another anti-Iraq piece but they played it well. The reasons for the Dust Devil's operations in the end were great.
Props to the guest stars this season too - both John Goodman and Dylan Baker were great.

Nice set up for Season 5. The relationship is perfectly severed. We could potentially end up with Season 5 being a perfect wrap up.

They've been dropping f-bombs the whole season. Ellen herself hasn't cursed before, which is kind of good - the ones cursing are the new characters, meaning there's consistency.
The show is on DirectTV, not FX, so they've got more leniency with regards to swearing, etc since they're a pay-channel like Showtime or HBO.

Ah, maybe I only noticed as it was Ellen

When it's from soliders and men I just filter it out
