Downloaded and bought the app Tasker, does anybody use this?

Its a great app, very powerful, basically gets the phone to do everything itself! I have seen some really cool profiles set up, but it looks difficult, i understand what i want it to do, just selecting the correct options sometimes is a bit hit and miss.

Does anybody use this or can they point me in the direction of good threads / forums on this app? I was on the apps wiki page etc, all good but still leaves it unclear, i have a couple of basic profiles set up for work (Tones Silent, WIFI off, Mobile Internet On) and for night time (Tones On low, alarm set, wifi on toggle, Mobile internet off) which changes at certain times automatically.

Yeah I use it quite a lot. takes a bit of getting use to but it is very powerful with what you can do with it.
Just play around with it is the best way I find to get used to it.

I've found myself getting back into using Tasker in the last week or two. The possibilities really are endless.

There doesn't seem to be to good an online resource for information and such. I was thinking of starting up something myself too.

    It kind of does EVERYTHING!

It allows you to automate any action your phone is capable of doing based on any context your phone is capable of recognising.

So you can set up anything from putting your phone on silent when you place it face down to checking an online weather feed every 30 mins and changing your wallpaper depending on what info it receives.

There's a free variation of it here
Haven't used it but it's meant to be like tasker/locale.

I checked out the Life Hacker pages when i was googling this app, the possibilities are unbelievable, i think it just takes alot of time messing with it. People should definitely check out the free trial even from the developers website.

I like the idea of the profiles that send you a text with the phones location if it is lost of stolen once you set up the profile correctly, im not that advanced yet with it!

I think I'm going to look into Theft Aware for my security needs. Although setting up a profile to find your phone when you've misplaced it within the house is something I must do.

Im still a newbie to this program, but its fun messing with it trying to get good profiles together.

If anybody has decent profiles which they find useful maybe post the details of what it involves to duplicate so others can use? Or upload it if thats allowed?

Notorious, that's a great idea. I'm new to Tasker and would love if this thread could turn into a shared knowledgebank.

I have managed to set up a profile which turns off GPS, Bluetooth and 3G (great battery saving) whenever Wi-Fi is connected and on exit it switches 3G back on.

I'd like to know is there a way to set the phone up when Wi-Fi is not connected e.g. turn on GPS, Bluetooth and 3G and have the phone 'sniff' for approved Wi-Fi networks every X minutes i.e. temporarily tuen on wi-fi and if there's a saved network then connect to it and turn off GPS etc but if there isn't a saved network available leave GPS, Bluetooth and 3G on.

    Ideas anyone?

    Ben

Well I use it to turn wifi on and off based on my location. Wifi is only on when I'm either at home or in work. You can have the other settings switched on when you leave the area, by adding them as exit tasks in the profile.

I have a handy profile I called Boot. When I turn on my phone it puts a Connect link in the notification pull-down menu. Clicking on the Connect link brings up a window with various connection options: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Browser, Facebook, Google search, Marketplace, Ebuddy, Vabbage, Wi-Fi hotspot and mail. It just means you can access these from any page
