If one sells an expensive item (circa 700 Euro) on EBay to an American buyer what is the policy with an Post regarding insurance and duty/customs?

I notice that Courier Post with an Post, while almost twice the price of Registered, has the highest insurance at €350.00. Is there any point putting 700 Euro down as the value if I can only get insurance of €350.00 and the buyer gets hit with extra duty?

Acording to here insurance can be purchased with anPost for €4 that covers €1,500.

When I sent mine the max you could insure was €350 no matter what you did. If your anyway concerned, talk to FedEx or UPS. But I think their values are similar to An Post.

I have to ask about that next time I'm down in An Post. On further reading, I think that only appears to cover within Ireland.

Posts split to new thread. Don't drag up old threads unnecessarily.
