    Huh? What?
The first meeting in quite some time of the boards.ie film forum film club! The film of choice: Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. In case you need anymore persuasion, it has Natalie Portman in it, which is always good.

    Ah. When?
    Tuesday 25th of January! 20:40!

    Where?
Edit: Looking like Cineworld will now be the venue of choice! Will be meeting up in the Cineworld bar beforehand, so show up anytime after seven and we'll be there.

    Em... Can I Come?
Sure! Any film fans / film forum members are welcome :)

    Can I bring a friend?
Sure! Unless they're a psychopath, in which case we'd rather you don't.

Anything else I need to know?
Since we meet in the Cineworld bar, you'll need to buy your ticket before heading up to meet us. Probably best to get the ticket as early as you can.

Hope to see you there :)

    I'll be there.

Just for info though, The Screen is a pain in the arse to get into for me if the film is not in Screen One! I insisted they allow me to see Sideways in Screen Two and "The Management" were not impressed.

Not the greatest fan of Cineworld but I'd prefer to go there than the Screen. Dundrum would be even better though (seeing as though I live withing throwing distance of it) ;)

Galvasean's guide to running a film club:

    Phase 1: Start film club
Phase 2: Present yourself as an affable but disorganised character so that someone will take on the reigns and do all the organising for you.
    Phase 3: ????
    Phase 4: Profit!

I'd prefer the old Cineworld to the Screen now myself so I would to be sure to be sure.

If Cineworld is the more popular choice, than mob rule shall win! I'm easy either way, but if accessibility issues are a problem than Cineworld may emerge more favorably.

I know LittleBook has expressed a preference towards the Screen, but if everyone else isn't too pushed we'll change to Cineworld - accessibility will have to take preference over supporting the underdog.

accessibility will have to take preference over supporting the underdog.

So this means I have no excuse, I have to turn up......the pressure ;)

I cannot wait to see this film, hope it's not a disappointment!

If we're going Black Swan in Cineworld, the times are 17:50 or 20:40.

Both suit me, but I'm guessing the later one would be favourable for most? Not too late for a paniced bus run either. Just a slightly less paniced bus run :pac:

Feck it. I need to meet people while I'm in Dublin. I might pop along, too :)

Have not been to the cinema since October...will try to make it to this. Don't know much about the film, but am intrigued.

Do indeed, the more the merrier :) We don't bite, unless Galvasean's dinosaur is around again (the official film club mascot!).

Darren Aronfsky. Natalie Portman. I don't think two proper nouns have ever sold a film to me so effectively.

Also, anyone have any preference on the two showtimes (5:50 or 8:40) so we can make a final decision?

Definitely 8.40. Can't make anything before 6.30 on weekdays.

Yeah, assumed 8.40 would suit more people, so unless there are any objections I guess stick with that! Shall you be joining us Jeff, looking like there should be a healthy crowd this time around :)

So unless anyone has serious issues with this: meet in the Cineworld bar anytime between 7.00 and 8.20 or so, and then onwards to get decent seats and confectionery for anyone who wants them?

Ended up going on a cinema-binge this weekend, just couldn't hold off seeing it! Will keep an eye out for the next gathering...

    8.40 should be ok.
*fingers crossed I dont have to work that night*

Hmm, appears there's an 8 PM show too. That would have the benefit of us being able to have a chat afterwards. But I have no issues with 8.40 either. I don't know, both seem fine to me, any preferences y'all? Will book my ticket tonight anyway, CANNOT WAIT.

Hmm, would you say booking in advance is advisable or is Tues night not too bad for turning up on spec? Seems like it will be a fairly popular film anyway. Re time, wouldn't mind 8pm, but 8:40 is also OK with me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,338 ✭✭✭✭Busi_Girl08

8 might suit me better, what with early starts and all :P but I'll be happy to go with the majority.

I'd say we stick with 8:40, just it being so late in the game and all :)

But booking in advance can't hurt, but neither would I consider it a necessity. If you're there earlier than half eight I can't imagine it being a problem buying the ticket there. I'll book later and see if it is assigned seating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,544 ✭✭✭marwelie

Won't be buying in advance because the website is a pain in the arse and I don't have time to ring the box office during the day. As for assigned seating, not a problem when you bring your own chair! I'll be there no later than 7.30 anyway, Im only up the road.

Just booked there, no seating choices so yeah you should be fine just showing up relatively close to the time.

Will be along later, looking forward to it.

Just a reminder that we'll be meeting in the Cineworld bar from seven onwards. Hopefully Galvasean will be along with his dinosaur mascot, so look out for that. If not, I'll bring along a Totoro plush as a marker.

So any newbies look out for the dinosaur or the Totoro on a table! Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Good night, and absurdly good film!

Will definitely try and have less of a gap between this and the next meet up.
