Is there a need considering it has both Km and miles on the speedo?

It was 2005 when we changed over. Maybe it's a Vauxhall with some DIY badge engineering?

was just browsing through and came across this http://www.carzone.ie/search/Opel/Astra/LIFE-1.6/201050200552418/advert?channel=CARS

its speedo is still in miles.... anyone any idea why? does it mean it was just sitting in a yard since 2004 ish before it was registered coz i thought km's came in around 04-05 yeah?

    just curious:D

    p

I was driving a 10 Reg Peugeot 308 Rental a couple of weeks ago, with the old mph & kmh clocks

No Idea why really? Thought it a bit strange though!

I just get a bad feeling from that car. Ad says 74,000kms when it's actually 74,000 miles. Ad says 1.5 or 1.6 depending on where you look. Mismatching hubcap. No dealer plates or sticker. No floor mats. Badly hoovered rear seats...

My guess is it's a car that sat around for a while with Opel before being put out as a hire drive and then had another careful owner before this dealer got their hands on it.

I'd go through it with a fine tooth comb and ask to see the VLC before I even went for a test drive.

I imported a car in 2008 It was registered in the UK in January 2008. I imported it in August 2008 so I get the number of a new Irish car in August.

This car has Miles on its mileage counter and has miles and km on the speedo. Miles been the most prominent.

This car could have been imported in mid 2007 so the reg would be in the sequence of non-imported car.

It would still come up as a Vauxhall on cartell/motorcheck etc. as far as I know.

Also, I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of changing all the badges especially the steering wheel and the front one, which looks like the whole grille would need to be swapped.

Thanks Chris. Defo wont be going near this one. from replies so far the only way to make sense of it is that it was sitting in a distributors yard for years ......

That interior looks very tired for something with only 74k miles. It would indicate to me that car had a very hard life upto now.

No dealer stickers on the back window

Bog spec Dreg Astra with though crap pressed metal plates with no surrounds, I'd put a few pennies on that it's an ex rental.

On another note, the brother had a 04 Mk5 Golf and it had km clocks.

If I'm not mistaken isn't that keyring from the recently liquidated 353 car hire?

I spend ages looking for another simliarly reg'd Astra to prove it's a ex rental, and you spot the f3cking keyring!:p

My main point was that they're two different dealers selling it.

I'm wondering has the first dealer shut down as that ad is 40 days old and this one is about a week old.

Possibly garages trading stock for quick cash or something along those lines.

Also a few beers has made me eagle eyed enough to spot the pink keyring :D
