Is the engine Management Light being on a cause for NCT failure.I was looking at test manual and it says Airbag,ABS etc but I was wondering about management Light.I can clear it by taking out EFI fuse but it only waits out for about 30 mins

Yes any dash warning lights will fail.

You can clear it permanently by repairing the problem that is causing it to come on!

Probably not a good idea to pull the fuse to put it out as it's telling you there's something not quite right with the way the engine runs. Depending on what the exact fault is, even with the fuse out, and the light no longer lit as a result, it could still fail NCT through emmissions. Unless your NCT is not very soon, you'd be better off to get it sorted, asuming the cost is no more than the car is worth

can you point out where in the testing manual this is stated?

I've looked through it but can't see a mention of any dash warning light meaning a fail.

My car passed the NCT on Wednesday with a Service warning light on the dash.

A car may pass with Engine Diagnostic light on. But the fact this light is on means there may be emissions issues; thus the car may then fail.

I have personally seen a little Micra pass the NCT in Little Island Cork with the Diagnostic Light on. The emissions were ok.

    ABS light on = FAIL
    Airbag light on = FAIL

As said above, get the codes read and diagnosed. It may save you a heap in the long run.

Odd that if you have a car without either ABS or Airbag - pass.

The car is an Avensis and the light is because of Lambda Sensor. As those are pretty expensive I am going to chance it through the test and if I have to replace a sensor I will. Its this way for the last 18 months (40000)miles with no adverse effects. My last car a Carina passed the test twice with Sensor gone.

Why? They're safety devices so if the car has them then they must be kept in working order so that they perform as expected in the event they're needed.
It's about predictability for the driver; cars with no system or a fully working system are predictable, cars with faulty systems may not be (especially if the fault iintermittent).
