    Anyone know much about these?

I'm considering it as a project but don't want to end up with an endlessly expensive project.

If its not gone by Saturday I may be heading along for a viewing unless someone else gets there before me. Seems like a nice enough car needing a good home so I'll not be pissed if any of you get there before me :D

Called the seller, its been parked up for 10 years, he has owned it for 7 of them. Starts and drives but has a misfire on one cylinder. He doesn't know much about it, mileage/history etc. It was bought as a project originally but he lost interest. I'd imagine a boy racer who grew up fortunately for the car. It may be too much of a project for me but if its not gone on Saturday I may be heading along for a viewing as it would make a different project for me.

The interior has been removed after the seller bought it as the previous owners cats got in while it was parked up and made it feel like home

I've no experience of them as my previous cars were Rovers and Austins. Are they difficult to work on and source parts?

I wouldn't bother with a shed like this one to be honest, you'll buy a really good one for a couple of thousand. You'll spend a lot more than a couple of thousand on that yoke that will only be fair at best.

From driving behind lots of them (many years ago) I remember that engine issues were quite common on them with blue smoke on gearshift and engine braking. Valve seat issue, if I remember correctly. Quite a few of them (especially when driven hard) smoked their little hearts out to a premature death

if your prepared to work at it and you really want one ,why not !!!!

Looks like a nice original car - not one that's had the guts driven out of it.

Agree with Ali Babba though - probably needs so much unless it's a labour or love it would be far more cost effective to find a daily driver.

They can and do rust so check everywhere. Almost a pity if it's been kept inside - be easier to see if the interior is full of water if it was outside.

One E30 I had involvement with a couple of years ago had a holed bulkhead, rust under the front screen, wet holed floor and rear inner arches. And had a current NCT.

Usually rust is the enemy, check wheel arches for rust along with the pockets inside the boot and rear inner arches, the scuttle panel below the front windsreen goes in them aswell at both bottom corners of the windscreen, the rear valance under the rear bumper is prone to rust around the towing eye area, and chech inside of sunroof panels as the monting points rust on them aswell,

Tech 2 kitted cars trap water behind the kit and can rot panels esp lower front wings

check for possible head gaskit failure, (mayo on the inside of the oil cap) the 316 is a tappety engine and sound noisy but seemingly they all sound like this

If the engine is very tappy, when it's warm make sure it revs all the way to the redline as a very tappy engine will mean badly worn cam and valvetrain therefore restricting valve movement and make the car bog down when reved hard

parts on it are easy to find and cheap and the car is easy to maintain
