I'm currently running Leopard on my iMac (a few niggles with Safari) and was wondering about moving to SL - probably a clean install is best. Will the iLife '08 stuff from the Leopard discs work in SL? I've Googled this a bit and generally the answer seems to be yes, but I'm a little hesitant. Also, can you import your Time Machine stuff created in Leopard to SL?

    Thanks :)

Yes, iLife '08 will work. If you experience any problems they are probably QuickTime X related and can be solved by installing QuickTime 7. However, I'm not sure if you'll be able to install from the old iLife disc. TM should have the apps backed up though.

A clean install under SL is a little different. You can't do it from the Installer, you have to go into Disk Utility. It's not really necessary IMO. SL's regular install replaces your old system folder so there shouldn't be any compatibility problems.

And, yes, Time Machine should work as well

Thanks, it's gone fairly smoothly so far. :) I've not done any software updates as of yet, still installing a few things from the DVD. Safari froze initially, but now it's quick as a flash. Not sure if that will last. Finishing the optional installs and then will try the software update. Overall, things look a good bit sharper, too.

Safari is prone to slowing down or freezing on launch after a while. In my experience clearing the cookies and history usually fixes the problem. Although I got so sick of this that I switched back to Chrome recently.

Started software update a while ago, time varying from 3, 6, 8 to 10 hours. 1.16GB.

Finding things are generally fine so far, still haven't managed to get a second printer set up (via an XP machine), but one will do for the moment. The error I was getting in Word in Leopard seems to be gone in SL.

This evening I've noticed that I can't seem to copy stuff (a folder for college) into my Dropbox folder, I'm getting error 36. I tried to repair the disk permissions and something suggested on Youtube (using Terminal), but no luck. Copies OK to USB stick.

    Have you updated to 10.6.6?
