Have a Transit, was driving nicely up till 2 days ago. Havent moved her since then. Today I started her up and the front wheels are not budging, feels like the brakes are on. Malfunction with the handbrake? Had her with a mechanic last month, said the back brakes will need to be changed in 10, 000 KM but front are fine. Could be that?

    Any ideas?

The front wheels aren't operated by the handbrake, only the rears. Are you sure the front are seized? The hand brake cable can seize on the back but also completely worn shoes on the rear can cause this. Im guessing its not the new transit, yours is probably 01 - 05 model?

    Well Plug

    Thanks for the reply.

I put the foot down a bit today to see if I could jolt her, as its front wheel drive would she not have dragged the back wheels along if they are locked? Just a guess on my part

Anyway, yeah she is 05. I am gonna jack her up now to see if I can rotate the front and back wheels manually.

Well if the back wheels are seized then it would 'drag' them along. But are you not relating your first post to the front brakes being seized up? Its unlikely that the front brakes will seize up, rear brakes its possible.

if there is a big weight in the back it might not drag the back wheels so id say its the hand brake jammed on.

    Spot on BMW535D

Just had a mate come over for a look, it was the hand brake. Got it sorted.

    Cheers lads!
