    Westbury2-1.jpg

So my beautiful and faithful companion in music for the past 26 years (almost to the day!) had a tragic accident yesterday evening, and suffered a broken neck.
I am honestly heartbroken, it's like a death in the family or something, I just cant believe it happened. It's a Westbury standard lefty, not the world's most expensive guitar, but a phenomenal guitar to play!
I'm going to miss this, and can hardly bring myself to start looking at replacements. Hopefully I can get it repaired but it's not a clean break so I am not sure it can be saved.

I'm sure it'll be missed, it's always horrible seeing a guitar like this :(

I've seen worse repaired, for example this:

    guitar-repair-4-s.jpg

    Guitar-repair-neck-1s.jpg

    neck-back-s.jpg

    became this:

    Vintage-Les-Paul-Junior-repair-final-2-s.jpg

    finished-repair.jpg

It will prob be a pricey repair but if its a guitar you've bonded with then its worth the money, regalrdless of what the guitar is actually worth monetarily.

I hope you can get it fixed, I really do. I know how attached you can get to a guitar you've had for ages. Best of luck, let us know.

That should be repairable by someone who knows what they are doing, though repairs are never cheap. For a guitar that means so much to you, you should get it sorted so you can have it back and playing again.
What happened by the way? Was it just the usual fall?

I was gathering up a few gig bags but when I lifted one, its strap was caught under one of the legs of the guitar stand, and tipped it over onto its face. Knew by the thump it made the guitar would be screwed.

I'll get it repaired when I've a few bob, so any recommendations would be gratefully accepted.
In the meantime I might have to pick up a cheap banger to get me through any gigs coming up.

Ouch, I hope you can get it repaired soon.

Very repairable, I did the same to a fender squire (The superstrat one) years ago and the guy who fixed it put maple dowels through the neck. It's still fine all these years on.

Ouch! hopefully you're able to get it sorted and back to good playing standard. Provided you get a good luthier to do it you should be fine.

I had a near miss with my Les Paul Jr. a few years ago when it fell through a glass coffee table headstock first. I still don't know how it didn't break! haha I nearly died from the shock.

Sorry about the guitar man :-( I hope you have taken the tension off the strings and packed it up safely. Its definitely repairable, just don't make it worse by pulling at it. Best of luck with it

Yea it'll be fixed all right. Recently i bought an ibanez Rx with headstock broken off just like that. I did the job myself, first time ever. GLued with wood glue, evostick stronger than the wood etc, clamped it, left it set a few days, filled the missing bits with wood filler, sanded and varnished. I play it all the time now and you could swing it about by the headstock no problem. Didnt cost me a penny. Contact me if you want any more info on the job.

    +1

AFAIK it's easy-ish and cheap to fix (glue and clamps), the expensive bit is trying to make it look as good as new cosmetically.

    Best of luck

Got my 58 arch top repaired last year (the head was completely broken off) by a small fiddle maker in Navan top job and only €60 needless to say I gave him a wee tip. I have his number somewhere if you need it.

So I picked up my guitar recently, and I am very happy with the result.
It was an awkward break to repair, but John did a great job. He also did some work on the frets for me as well as replacing the nut, cleaning out the pots sorting out the pickups, adjusting the neck, action & intonation, giving it a good (and well overdue) set up I suppose.

While there are still visible marks on the neck as a result of tsome of the lacquer going astray when it broke, that's fine because I cant see or feel them when I'm playing.

This was never going to be a complete restoration job, just a rescue & repair job, so dont be put off by the photos! I didnt get great shots of the neck when it was cracked, so it's hard to get a good comparison. It certainly feels a lot better than it looks.

I am delighted with the results, and I'd have to say that I'd recommend this luthier to anyone. (John Moriarty, www.archtop.ie in case you missed it earlier.)
