Failing one in final year

Hey, if you happen to get unlucky enough to fail one module in final year, and you managed also to fail the repeat, this would mean you would have to do another half a year in college to resit the module again in the next years exam season right? So you would not graduate until you returned for half a semester and then passed the module? Would this mean you would have to pay fees for a full half semester, or would the college allow you to prepare for the exam on your own and just come back during exam session to sit it?

Obviously not a situation I would wish on anybody but just curious as to what actually happens if you fail one in final year. Also say the module in question is an elective as opposed to a final year specialism, would that make any difference?

    Thanks

What course is it for? This may differ as in Engineering, they group the modules, so if one is failed, it is okay as long as the average of the modules is a pass.
