Underfloor Heating - Heatmiser Actuator Problem

Hi folks. I am at my wits end with my heating system at the moment. It seems to be an issue with the actuator but I'm open to being proven wrong.

I have ufh up and downstairs. Downstairs one of the rooms is always ice cold. If I take off the actuator heat will run to the room but I dont want that room heated 24/7 so thats no use to me.

Another issue I seem to have is the room temperatures. I can set the room temperature to be 16 degrees between 7 and 8:30 in the morning but whe I arrive into that room at say 8:00 the stat says it's 19 degrees.

Can anyone help me? I'm a novice to this thing but there seems to be no proper guide as to what temperature I should have each room at or how the actuators are affecting my temperatures in the rooms. some of the actuators screw on easily, some don't. any ideas?

If you take off the actuator, and heat flows, then then either the actuator is just plain faulty, or, it's not getting a signal to open.

I've had just the same issue over christmas on one, and, I suspect my stat is at fault.

It's easy enough to check the actuator, but I don't know how proficient you are with electricity.............or, swop it for a known good one on another circuit. If that works, you know your actuator is duff. If it doesn't, have a look at the stat. Again, you could swop it for a known good one, to test.

As for temp settings, you do have to realise that if temp in the room is down, and your actuator opens, it won't close until after both the room and the floor under it, reach the preset temp (16 deg). However, the acuator will then close, but the floor will continue to release heat to the room for a good while thereafter, which is why your room temp continues to rise.........there is a lag involved, and it's determined by room size, screed thickness and, possibly......is there a lot of glass, or does it face East/South ? (the rising sun can influence it.......).

Then, of course there's the siting of the 'stat. If in a 'cold corner', it will always be out of step with the room. And, conversely, if it's in a 'warm spot' (say, where the sun can shine on it directly), the opposite is true.

The other issue is, maybe your not running the UFH for long enough, but at lower settings. A 1.5 hour 'shot' is quite short for an UFH system to cope with.

    Hope this helps.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

on mobile so short reply. i find i have to power down the control box now and again as it is activating relays for no reason. remove cover to see light beside zone for trouble shooting. also south facing room can get good temp gains from day light on winter days.

im having problems with the heatmiser thermostat on the digital units in some rooms,we have the stat set to 19 degrees, however at night the stat is showing 14 degrees for example but the room is very hot,we have 2 baby thermostats in the room and they read 22 degrees, this is a similar problem in severeal other rooms, also one of the digital panels shows that's its on/off at the same,if any one has any similar problems or solutions I would be very happy to hear.

I'm not familiar with the brand of stat, but noticed an unusual occurrence that may be causing your own issue. My parents house was build before air tightness was popular, but there is a bad draft coming down the electrical conduit which I always thought may be affecting the UFH stat on the wall.

Would this be the cause of your issue by any chance?
