Hi, first time to post in this forum.

I'm having an issue that I hope somebody here can help with.

My grandparents have a vhf/uhf combination aerial nounted on the roof. This feeds directly to the tv in the front room. They wanted to split the signal in order to have another tv in a seperate room, so I did the following for them

-Put in a passive external splitter at the aerial
-Ran cable to the second tv
    -Began tuning second tv

The reception on the first tv is unchanged, with RTE 1 and 2, along with TV3 and TG4 all coming in clearly

The problem is with the second tv. Upon tuning it, I could receive TV3 and TG4 just as clearly as on the first tv. However, I can't receive RTE 1 or 2 at all, even fuzzily or with snow. Ther is absolutly nothing.

As a last resort I tried a signal booster on the second TV, and disconnected the coaxial cable from the first tv, but this made no difference.

Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated

    Make/model of 2nd TV?

    Has it actually got VHF?

Have you considered a digital set-box adaptor for Saorview for the TV www.saortv.info ?

Which Transmitter are you using? Or Location (Mullaghanish Cork/Kerry, Clare/Galway Maghera, Sligo/Donegal Truskmore or South east Kippure or Mt Lienster)?

According to Sig maybe Mullaghanish or Maghera?

Try the second TV beside the first TV, that will eliminate the aerial problem. Agree withh Watty, 2nd TV probably has no VHF tuner, particularly if it is a UK model or set to country=UK.

    Guys, thanks for the replies.

First off, its in Kildare, I think Mt Leinster is the transmitter

Secondly, this tv has received rte 1 and 2 before in a different house, so the vhf tuner is not a problem, unless its possible for the tuner to stop working

Might have to go with the set-top box

Glad it wasn't something stupid I was (or wasn't) doing

    thanks again for the replies

RTE 1 and 2 could be on UHF if you were tuned to a relay transmitter, how far away was the "other house" ??

I haven't used VHF for RTE in Limerick since Woodcock Hill started. It used to be a choice of equally bad reception from Maghera or Mullighanish.

LOADS of places can get RTE1 & RTE2 on UHF. But where you are now, is obviously VHF for RTE1 & RTE2. Digital is all UHF. Though needs either a Irish Digital Compatible TV or an Irish Digital Compatible Set Box.

the other house was in the same town, maybe a kilometre away

I would still put the two TVs side by side to check that they are both capable of working off the same aerial.

1 km can make a difference. Depends what aerials installed and where pointing. My daughter moved 0.5km and now only has Satellite. No TV.
