During the the cold spell my car got snowed in at Dublin airport
flights were cancelled "bla bla" got back to the car after five hours to almost a foot of snow,
i dug out as much as i could then me and my partner started to try and leave but had a job to get out, doing a little bit of wheel spinning nothing excessive we suceeded after half an hour.
Next day the same again but maybe 15 mins to get out.

Problem is if the car is sitting over night lets say eight hours, for the first start of the day it will have no power for a minute then it will run well for the rest of the day
1 first gear is fine all the way through the revs
2 second gear and up the revs won't go passed 2.5 thousand
    3 its a 05 Volvo V50 2.0 Diesel
4 small service in three months time oil change oil filter pollen filter im told
5 i have it a year with no probs and its my first diesel

I don't think you've done any damage - it sounds like some component could be sticking, whether the cold spell has anything to do with it or not is anyone's guess!

Are there any warning lights on the dash? It would be worth your while to have a diagnostic check done, to check if there's anything obvious up. Failing anything showing up, you will have to leave it into a good specialist or main dealer as they would have a better idea of what they're looking at.

2 things you could look at yourself would be the air intake pipework and air-mass meter. Have a look at the air intake pipes and make sure none are split or loose. Also, if you can disconnect the air mass meter and leave it overnight - then try starting it in the morning and see if the problem goes away.
