VRT Question

Thinking of buying an 1994, English registered car that has been in Ireland for quite a while, a few years at least.

I'm wondering what the situation with VRT will be? Will I have to pay a huge amount extra on VRT if/when I happen to get it registered in Ireland?

Get a receipt with the date you bought it.

Is it private sale or a dealer ?

A dealer should have a TAN number which enables them to keep a car in stock without registering till sold.

Also maybe cut a deal with the seller, check out what the VRT should be and tell the seller you will add this to the agreed price and get him to VRT it for you as part of the deal and if VRO want more well thats the sellers problem.

Maybe just phone the VRO explain the position and what is the situation etc, If they ask you details of the seller just say you only know his first name and you only know its a 94. Dont give full registration. No harm in asking..

I am unsure of the new rules, but in the past the fine was 10% of the value of the VRT on top of the VRT amount for not registering within the time frame if cought.

Sorry i cant of more help maybe somebody else will know more.

    Good luck
