    Hi Guys,

    I'm looking for some help. I am looking to electric Blower fans from China at a very good price. The price is delivered to hear.

    Will there be any other costs?
    I haven't ordered yet so any help or advise would be appreciated:)

    The main costs would be delivery, import duty and vat both of which are charged by customs. On the vat from revenue
    "As a general rule, imported goods are liable to VAT and customs' duties at the point of arrival in the country. Revenue Customs will collect both the VAT and the duty before the goods will be released. If you are registered for VAT, and are bringing the goods in for business purposes, then you can claim back the VAT in your next VAT3 Return. VAT is charged on imports at the same rate that applies to the sale of similar goods in the state"
    Delivery depends on size/weight and road or air obviousy.
    Import duty varies but is taken as a percentage of invoice which is displayed on goods. If I remember correctly I paid around 15%. Hope this helps.

    How many are you planning on buying? And what are they for?

    Bit of advice when buying from China I'd bear two things in mind

    1. Electrical stuff can be very hit and miss, whoever you buy them from.

    2. Buying from China isn't always cheaper than buying from a wholesaler in UK or Ireland, depending on how many you're buying. The reason is that a large wholesaler may have gotten a far far better price than you could ever get.

    However, if these are things that you can't get from any wholesaler here or in UK, then go ahead. But bear in mind that buying from China isn't always cheaper unless you're buying in big bulk.

    Hello Captain Fantastic,

    I would suggest to ask the following questions ;

    1) What are the correct delivery terms. Does your supplier propose ;

    - CIF Dublin (Cost, Insurance and Freight)
    - DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid)
    - DDP (delivered Duty Paid)
    - CPT (Carriage Paid To)

    NB : In the case of CIF Dublin, it will be your responsibility to

    A) Pay for the arrival/unloading cost (Caveat Emptor!!!!)
    B) Pay for the customs clearance
    C) Pay for the duty and VAT

    Sub A) there have been quite a numer of posts on Boards.ie were people have been badly stung and where the charges levied here in Dublin by the agent of the carrier employed by the supplier are (ever so slightly) over the top .......

    In case of DDU/DDP and CPT, provided that the place of delivery is added to the term, the shipper indeed pays for all the charges up to your door, including clearance and duty (DDP) or excluding clearance and Duty (DDU and CPT).

    If this is your first time doing this, then be very, very careful and ensure you know what you are buying into.

    2) In case of CIF or C&F Dublin, ask your supplier to specify ;

    A) the amount of freight costs included in his price
    B) the name of the agent in Dublin of the carrier he is using (so you can check what costs they will levy for your shipment)
    C) Details of the proposed shipment, i.e. number of cartons, weight per carton and dimensions (LxWxH)

    3) Based on the info under 2C, ask a number of Irish agents to quote you from FOB (Free On Board) Chinese port to your door. Then make a comparison based on comparing like with like. also have a look at the following thread (there are more like this) to give you an idea of some of the problems people have faced when leaving the transport arrangements to their suppliers http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055661902

    4) Please find attached a document that will give you some guidance on importing. Have a look at it. You will find contact numbers for customs that will be able to help you establish the rate of duty on your goods. Please bear in mind that the calculation for duty and vat is as follows ;

    A) Duty - Cost of Product plus Insurance plus Freight x rate of duty
    B) VAT - as above plus the duty

    NB : If you are registered for VAT, you are entitled to claim the VAT paid at imports back in your periodic VAT return

    Feel free to contact me if you require any further assistance

    Cheers,
    Rudolf289

    The price may be too good to be true! - Watch out, even chinese guys over here don't trust many of there fellow countrymen.

    If its an unbranded heater, you may need product liability insurance - basically if it causes a fire, you'll have to pay!
