I had a look at some of the sites in the "useful sites" thread, but there doesn't seem to be any decent site that lists budget accommodation for Asia?

Alot are just hotels in the €30 per night minimum range.

You hear of these €5 per night places which are fairly decent and safe, but where can one go online and check out similar priced spots?

From my experience you will never find the cheap places online, it is possible to find places for 5-8 euro a night but they won't have them listed online, the only way is when you get to a place is to have a good look around.

If you can, try to head to €18 -€20, as so many of the places that charge €5 can be pretty grim.

If you know which cities you intend to visit, ask for accom advice/requests for each city in this forum.

I found Travelfish fairly useful for for guesthouses. As mentioned, if you mention a few cities you plan on staying in, people can probably give you more help.

I found the lonely planet guide fairly helpful.. We tended to pick one of the recommended places and none of them were very bad and fairly cheap!! Once you get to a place it'll be very easy to find someplace to stay. Usually once you get off a train or bus there'll be plenty of people waiting with hotel suggestions!!! Can be annoying but pretty cheap accomm.
