    Hey guys,
    opinions welcome....

looking to book a holiday for end of may/start June.
We were thinking either the Canaries/South of France or Greece.

    So here is the situation
couple, early 30's, want a bit of beach bumming, few drinks in the evening, nice atmosphere, not too mad/clubby, and some sights/culture in easy travel distance, definitely no half naked dancing boys and larger louts!

Never been to any of these places before, so was hoping for some info.

Our choices are either cheap and cheerful, 1wk-10 days and go self catering, or else some offers are good for 2 weeks all inc.

So hoping for info on resort style, things to do, restaurants, prices for eating out and basic groceries.

I suppose what I am asking is, where did you go that you liked, what did you like about it and what were prices like?

    thanks everyone!

the booze crew will have started to arrive in their thousands to the canaries by end of may/early june, best time to hit those islands is november through march

Côte d'Azur is a beautiful part of the world, nice is the biggest city in that region, lovely town, stony beach though, cannes about an hour by public bus has golden sandy beaches, monte carlo is a short bus ride from nice too, its not cheap that part of the world but honestly you can get a few bargain places to eat and drink and the public transport is really cheap

thanks for that Rosie1977, but I think the Cote d'Azur and Cannes would be out of our budget price wise for eating out and drinks etc. Have asked a few people about that area and they all agree that it is pricey. I'm veggie, which at the best of times poses a challenge, but if we are limited by price as well we'll end up cooking in the apartment every night, and its a break from the kitchen I want (at least for a few nights!) lol

we are looking at either a) really cheap and cheerful s/c for one week or b)if its going to cost €500 each s/c then we reckon we'd be as well to spend €700 and go all inc for 2 weeks. there are some good deals from Belfast to Greece for around that price, all inc. Even with going out for a meal the odd night, between drinks and snacks it would be cheaper.

I know that these resorts get more busy at this time of year, but surely there are parts of the islands that are quieter, less rowdy? The reason for booking flights and hotel independently is the hope that we can find a nice quiet part of the Canaries/Spain and use that as a base, hire a car, do our own thing. As long as we're not in the throng of the crowds and bar areas that'll be fine.

or failing that, rather than Cote D'Azur or Cannes, can anyone suggest a nice spot in France (any coastal region, once its nice and sunny) that is not too expensive? I mean in the region of say €20 pp for a 2 course meal sort of price?

or even Spain? I'm not familiar with Spain, never been there as the image of lobster pink Irish and English rowdies drinking in Irish bars all day sticks in my head. But again, if someone can suggest a nice spot, outside of the traditional resorts with easy and cheap air links then we'd be willing to give that a go.

I just want to go somewhere fairly inexpensive, pretty, and relaxed with a beach and some sun. And a bit of sightseeing would be great.

I know that boardsies usually have the inside scoop so I am hoping someone can inspire me! :P

did you find somewhere yet. Look at Ryanair route map. Pick a coastal airport check for cheap flights, be flexible, then check out owners direct.com and similar rental sites. Haggle with owners, you'll defo get prices down. You Should easily get flight and accomm for less than 500 each. Way less.

we went for Malta in the end. Booked flights with Ryanair and accommodation with alpharooms. Total price, inc transfers, was less than €900 for two people, 15 nights, half-board. Sweet! :D
