Scan a copy or add the jpeg

All they are looking is a electronic/soft copy of a passport type photograph. ie. Head & shoulders, white background, No dark glasses, no hats, and no Burqa's.

They attach it to your immigration file, the same way as in the old passports you had to send 2 original passport photos. One for the passport and one for your original file.

so is it as simple as,
scaning a passport photo and saving/naming it as a .jpg file using my name or who's ever picture it is?

also on the whole certifying documents thing,
when you get them certified do you get them stamped on the front?
so that when you scan them they (immi) can see the certification?
but this blocks out some of the document where they (solicitors) stamp it, how do the immi deal/feel about this?

When you get them certified you have to post them direct to immi. There's no point accepting scanned papers where you could easily add a stamp via Photoshop or whatever.
