are you talking about a flatbed scanner? a negative scanner? or something else.

or your friend (if they have a digital camera) could take a digital photo of the original photo (assuming they own the pic in the first place) ... and put that on a DVD/CD

I'm having trouble visualising a hand held scanner that isn't just a camera...

Handheld scanners are not cheap are tend to be more for text than photos. Unless there is an ALDI version he might be better off going to a camera shop and having them scanned there onto a DVD.

Bring your 200 photographs/negatives to a lab(chemist) and have them do it. It'll be cheaper and less time consuming than buying a scanner.

Thanks for the replies. This was a thing, about the 12 inches long and about 4 inch think. You feed the photo through the scanner, and it stores them , you transfer them via a usb ?So its not a flat bed scanner.I have one of them..

The ALDI one is made by Medion: http://www.medion.com/gb/electronics/prod/MEDION%C2%AE+Photo+Scanner+S82005+%28MD85903%29/50036902A1 but they were also doing a film scanner recently, which is for scanning negatives and slides...

    Here's one:

If you have a half decent digital camera and you light the prints with plenty of daylight, you can take photos of the prints and get decent results. A tripod or steady hand would help with getting good results.
