List of colleges accepting LCA qualifications

    Hi,

I've a brother who's currently taking the LCA course at second level. He hopes to use this for entry to an FETAC level 5 course in IT, and then progress to Level 6, Diploma, Cert, Degree.

Is there an authoritative list anywhere of colleges, institutes, etc that accept LCA for entry to their FETAC level 5 courses? As applications need to be made to the colleges individually, not to a centralised body like the CAO, we're having trouble finding out where he can apply to. All of the "big" colleges and universities don't offer FETAC level 5, nor take LCA, so we're left with trying to find the lesser known, smaller ones.

EDIT: http://qualifax.ie has a search facility.

    Thanks,
    Paul.

What part of the country is he in? You should be able to get into most FETAC Level 5 courses with the LCA. The VECs are probably a good place to start looking.

Depending on how badly you messed up in the last sessions, it may not be possible for you to get a distinction. Talk to your coordinator and work out your possible maximum credits.

Make sure to lose no KA credits this year and try get as many as you can on the tasks. The exams are only a small part of your credits but do your best there.

The key assignments are where distinctions are made and lost. Make sure to have your 90% attendance requirement too. Good luck.

You can't get into third level with LCA, you will have to go the Further Ed. route. As far as I know, all Further Ed. colleges take LCA; you just have to find out which courses can lead on to the third level course you want to follow, and what the progression is. Different FE colleges have different arrangements with individual third level colleges.
