    Hi all,

Im shopping around and have my eye on a opel astra 1.3 cdti van.....I would love to hear from anyone who has or had one of these or worked on one...Any comments good or bad would be great as I know little or nothing about opel diesels. Also does anyone know the service intervalls for this model and when timing belt kit needs changing?

    Thanks In advance.

Think it has a chain rather than a timing belt

I had one of these for 2 years, gave me no problems what so ever.
For a van it was pretty comfortable. Service intervals were every 30,000km as far as I remember.

Only downpoint is that 1.3 is pretty dead in 1st/2nd gear, to the point where you struggle to pull away at roundabouts, etc but then fine when you get up in the gears.

Drove one of those just over a year ago for almost 2 months.
I kind of liked it if you keep in mind it is only a 1.3 and a diesel at that.
Sometimes i had the impression it was filling up the tank in stead of using diesel :D

Avoid the 1.3 cdti, they are underpowered and do have many engine problem issues,
I know they sound like a good option for the lower road tax etc but in the long run you better off with the 1.7 cdti.. they are a much better machine overall..

they really are underpowered in the low gears., even moving uphill on my laneway on start up took some effort ..i had the 1.3cdti astra 5 door 2 years ago and got the engine repaired under warranty vauxhall garage...(51k miles with fsh)
i have been told at several vauxhall garages that they do give quite alot of trouble with the engines... the 1.7cdti are by far the best with nice power in all gears and my brother has a 2006 and its much better to drive..
they are very very hard to sell in the north as people have heard about them but the 1.7 is what everyone is going for, just ask any of the vauxhall garages, says it all really..

on the upside regarding the road tax im sure they some money to be save when comparing the 1.3 and 1.7 (pre 2008) engine sizes

Picked a 1.3 07 reg up after and so far im happy with it, comfy to drive, runs on the smell of diesel and they seem well finished. Cant complain.

hi, the 3 door astra are a nice looking car but alot more money than the 5 door.. any harm to ask what you paid for it?

€6500. Its the hatchback astra van I bought....All the same except without the back seats...Clean motor...I disagree that there underpowered.....Not exactly a rocket but certainly not underpowered.

Great little engine the 1.3 , actually a fiat design and great around town, never designed as a motorway muncher ,but as long as you change the oil regularly to maintain the timing chain they don't give a whole load of trouble !
