Just wondering why the floods in Austrailia (tragic though they are) are taking the headlines when only a few people have lost their lives, while the flooding last night in Brazil which killed dozens of people is almost unreported ?

The media, to a certain degree, reflect the opinions and interests of the people.
Irish people are not really interested in Brazilian deaths. They're certainly tragic but we don't give it much thought.
The floods in Australia resonate far more with the Irish public, probably because there are a lot of Irish living there and it's a western world country.
If you were to rely on death counts then large earthquakes in in places like Pakistan would be bigger stories than 9/11 etc.
