Covering My Tattoo For A Job?

Hey hey guys. I need some help...

Here's My Situation: See, I just filled out an online job application for the position of "Cabin Crew". It's a job I've loved the idea of having for years, and I'm delighted that I've actually had the chance to apply for it...

Problem: Ya know those lovely blue skirts that are part of the lovely uniforms? They're lovely... but they wouldn't go with a tattoo of a big black rose on one's lower calf, now, would they? ...Well, that's what, I have a slight feeling, my potential fufure boss and customers might think.
Now, I haven't got a call for an interview yet (hopes might be a bit too high on this one), but I just wanna cover my bases in case they do... or in case any other situation comes up in which I gotta hide this thing which I love but not everyone does (a common dilemma, I know :P ).

My Question Is: So, how do I cover up my tattoo?
I've already searched Google for methods and products, but most are based in America and can be a bit expensive.
Things I've seen are specialist make-up products and skin-coloured fabric sleeves that you can wear over your tattoo and no one's the wiser, but are there other alternatives? If so, what are they? What can I do and where in Dublin can I go to get what I need to do it?
It'd also be something that I'd need to last pretty much all day and that won't rub off under tights, in the case of using make-up.

Any and all help and suggestions are very much appreciated.

    Thanks guys. :)
    Beinwen

P.S. This is my first thread... please be gentle... lol ^^

P.P.S. Removing or fading my tattoo ain't an option... I've only had it 5 months and I love it to bits... I'd hate having to cover it, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do... ^^

    Black tights?

Maybe... though my only concern is if black tights are not allowed as part of the uniform...

    You could try these.
Old ladies use them to cover up varicose veins, they work quite well at covering
    up.

Good luck, hope you get an interview!

Here's a video on a make-up option for cover up. Benefit do an under-eye dark circle concealer that covers really well, called boi-ing.

Blister plasters should work too, but perhaps a blending make-up option will be more effective.

Try the tattoos & piercing forum, I'm sure those guys would have great knowledge...

@Beinwen - No need to delete it. I'll simply move it over to the Tattoos forum where they may have more advice.

Good luck with the job interview (hopefully)

Dermablend was recommended to me for cover up but to be honest, I didn't find it all that great :(

I would be leaning towards opaque tan tights if I were you. The ones Regina Phalange suggested would be a good option. Dancers wear similar tights so check out the likes of dance world in Ranelagh.

    Good luck!!!

Dance World is actually a really good idea... I'll check out the one by Pierce St. first as it's closest to me (and I know where it is... I just moved up from Wexford... Dublin is still a maze to me... :P). Thanks loads! :)

Theatrical makeup can work. Look at all of the actors who have tattoos. If their tattoos are not included as part of a film script then where do they go to? There is a coustume shop at the top of Grafton St, just opposite to the Stephens Green centre. You could try them and see what they suggest. Another option is the makeup embalmers use when preparing remains. That stuff will conceal anything. The only suppliers I know for that makeup is Shepperds of Longford.

You shouldn't cover it at the interview stage, its better for them to see it at that stage but do say you have no problem covering it up if you do get the job and can do so easily and discreetly.

At least you know ways to cover it up now and its best to know ways to do so before going for an interview incase they do ask how would you do so.

Best of luck with it! :)

For me personally, I would disagree with this, I've always kept piercings and tattoos covered for interview, then if I get offered the job, explain at the induction that it can be covered.

Yeah I suppose, I dunno, I just prefer to say it from the beginning and show it won't be a problem. I've always kept piercings in for interviews and just say if it is an issue I can take them out while working.

I have 5 stars tattooed on my foot and during the summer when I wear skin coloured tights to work I hide it with the following:

    http://vichyconsult.co.uk/local/en-gb/dermablend/vichy-dermablend.aspx

I use pressed powder on top or sometimes bronzer if I've a tan etc. I've found it brilliant. I found the foundation stick covers and lasts much longer that the cover cream. I got it in a chemist on Grafton St, but any chemist that stocks Vichy should have it. Think it was around €12/13 during the summer.

Good luck with the job application!

I wouldn't worry about it unless it is written in the dress code that you can't have any visible tattoos. I have only had a problem with piercings, never tats, I have quite a few visible ones. Saying that if they do have a problem with it then I would also go for the black tights option!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 Beinwen

It did say on the job description no visible tattoos, but only mentioned the fact that the shirt is short slieved. (I do also have a lip piercing, but I can go for almost 2 days without trouble getting it back in, so taking it out for work has never been a problem... I also have a flesh-coloured plug for my lobe spacing.)

But, alas, I got an e-mail to tell me that my application was unsuccessful... thanks anyway everyone, I really appreciate all the help. And I'll probably use the advice should another need to do so arise... I do a bit of acting and stuff so I'll probably have to cover it up before going on stage at some point anyway... :P

    Thanks loads again anyways! :)
