Teaching ICT in secondary-level school

I'm an IT professional who would like to switch a career and become an ICT secondary school teacher.

After deep investigation I've realised two discouraging facts:
    1) the ICT isn't manadatory subject for leaving certificate
    2) there's no job adverts on the market currently (hopefuly it's different before each new academic year!)

... so I wonder how many pupils attend that subject at all. In fact, I wonder if schools employ educated IT labour or they use existing akin staff for teaching ICT.

What's the situation with ICT teachers and education in general (I'm particularly interested in Dublin council and near region, but would like to hear the rest as well)? Shortly, all about prosperity in that field.

    Any help/advice/constructive discussion is welcome!

    Cheers!
    DB

Hi deyobeyo - I've moved your thread to the "Teaching & Lecturing" forum as you'll probably get more specific answers here.

Already a thread in this forum about this. I have answered in that thread so I'll lock this one.
