I have no experience using excel so this is a very basic question.

I have a list of numbers in column D and E. I want to divide the numbers in d1 by e1 and have the answer show up in cell f1 and all the way down each column.

    Thanks.

    Type in cell f1:
    =d1/e1
or just type = and then click d1, type / then click e1
Then move your mouse to the bottom right corner of cell f1 and double click (or just drag it down to the end of the column)

I tried to find the answer to this question at that site but no luck.

Basically I have numbers in column b,c,d and e.

I have excel automatically multiplying BxD (answer in column F) and CxE (answer in column G)

I want to sort column F from smallest to largest using the function in excel and have all the rows change so that the data in each row before the sort stays together.

When I click a cell in column F and click sort from smallest to largest none of the data changes. I assume this is because of the function multiplying the other cells and putting the answers into this column.

advice on how to get around this last problem would be much appreciated.

You need to swipe all of the columns i.e. from b to g on all of the rows that you want sorted so say you have rows 1 to 100 filled in with the data or formulae you're describing, you need to get the mouse and swipe (select) cells b1 to g100 and then sort on column f.

Hi There, apologies first if I am in the wrong forum but I have not posted on here for several years. I have an interview tomorrow and will most likely be tested on excel. I've been out of the job market for a couple of years and have forgotten how to do a nested formula. Can anyone please help by firstly letting me know how to do a nested formula in the F1 section and if they can help by advising me of a formula for the following row 2 Column 6.

Wk No Pay Cum Pay Cum Cut Off CumTax Cum Tax
    @ 20 @41%

    1 600 600 663.48 120.00 0????
    2 800 1400 1326.92 ?????

I've managed to do the tax rate of 20% by the following formula =IF(D2>C2,C2*20%,0) but I now need to be able to add a formula which will show Row 2 at 1400.00 minus 1326.92 and will show cum tax @20% as 265.38 and Cum Tax at 41% as 29.96.

    I would hope that the same formula could be used for the new USC ie upto 193 @ 2% = 3.86. 193.01 - 308 is @ 4% = 4.50 and 308.01 upwards is "7%
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can try this link to know all the formulas and even more than when you were left to work in excel. If you remind about all these forumulas then i'm sure you will find your next job very soon.
