Why did the Greens not walk over Seanie and Cowan

Is there anything that the Greens will find out about FF that will make them leave government?

It is totally inconceivable that the near crisis in Irish banks were no discussed on the day they met for golf. Its a total fairy tale with all the bells on, which the Greens have swallowed once again. I want to know why? How can they let the people of this country down like this. Whatever about re election, this was their last chance to walk away with some dignity, and i just don’t get why they did not

Are we fecking stupid or are they so out of kilter with most people that prostituting themselves and getting a few bill passed is more beneficial to the Irish people than doing the right thing, and getting these shower of lying b@stards out of power. Are they so thick to think that they will be remembered for getting some half arsed climate bill through? They should be remembered for being a door mat, covered in **** from their FF partners, and who let this country down

    I can’t wait till D day

P.s : some of this may be seen as a rant and may be deleted by a green mod

    Good Day

Why would they, there only interested in getting some of their policy bills through before they are ****ed out. I was at least amused to see how quite Git Gogarty was at the press conference yesterday, i suspected the seating arrangement was deliberately designed to minimize seating arrangements so as not to encourage this buffoon to bring his poor daughter along!

Because the passing of the Finance Bills and the political and financial stability that it brings is more important to this country than scoring political points.

Due to the fact that if the Finance Bill was not passed, we would be in some very deep trouble indeed . . . and FF know the Greens are sticking it out until the bill is passed, so expect it to be put off for as long is feasible.

FYI - leaders questions is going to be broadcast live on RTE1 today at 15:38 today.

I reckon say end of March at the very latest, if not sooner. How long is needed between the calling of the election and the election itself?

Evidently not, based on the last few years!

Morally, they have merged with FF - now they have no morals.
Again this is based on their decisions to support this givernment over the last few years.

Well they did vote for NAMA on conditon that Fur Farming would be banned so maybe they will continue to support the government on the basis that they get something else through.

Didn't they already say that they were staying on so that their own (loony) policy objectives could be put through the Dail before the election is called?

Its rather a pity that they didn't remember this before pulling that political stunt after the IMF were here. The hope that the Brians and FF would be gone soon was at least a bit of solace to people when the country was at its lowest ebb. I hope the greens get annihilated in the forthcoming election, along with their buddies in FF.

    Three weeks I think.

Either way they should be lambasting Cowen over it.

He either talked about it or not:

    1) Did talk about it. what was said, why and how much did they discuss of the forthcoming crises? What potential dealings came out of it and how did it effect the like of the blanket guarantee?

    2) Didn't talk about it. As Taoiseach (sp?) he should be asking about those kinds of thing and making sure he knows as much as possible about whats going on in such a large bank which had already shown signs of sever trouble on the way. Bordering on dereliction of duty not to ask IMO

Damned if he did, damned if he didn't but somehow he's gotten away with it

Just thinking about it, I can't figure out why they told people at the press conference yesterday that they would "wait and see how Mr Cowen would respond to questions from Opposition leaders on the issue tomorrow" (from here).

I wonder when asked to provide an account, did Cowen just tell them to go and sh....
He has nothing to lose and is a goner anyway but he knows that they won't walk.

The government only published the legislative agenda for the current Dail session in the past hour or so. The Greens could have been looking for leverage in getting what they wanted on the agenda.

Still would not be surprised if the wheels came off the wagon this week though.

FF will delay delay, and the Greens will pretend frustration. The aim for FF is to get its party agenda fixed ie placement of its cronies on the various State boards and bodies and many other things, the Finance bill is just a smokescreen. Both parties have denied democracy and 3 bye elections so have no mandate to be at this juncture or be in office still dictating despite the disaster they have created. Neither are fit to propose any legislation to suit their own ends. A new Government could do that putting the country first for a change.

Its not just the finance bill but also the Climate and Waste Bills that the Greens want to push thru'

By this stage even if we find out something like Cowen having breakfast with Saddam, the Greens would still keep their blinkers on and go against the very same "integrity" they used to make so much noise about before.

I agree, mainly that - and by lord, expect it to be dragged out a bit for as long as possible as FF can get what remaining benefits they can out of what time they have left.
After all they have to fill some just under 300 position in the state, for their mates and supporters.
    All that takes time!

Eh, one reason I presume, is because it's not so serious a matter as to bring down a government. I admit the optics look bad, but nobody has been able to state that anything untoward happened. Should governments be brought down simply because of the Taoiseach's poor choice of golfing partners?

They discussed it, absolutely; Seanie probably put a very good spin on it. Might have
Implied things might get bad but Anglo was sound and if not for these god damn journalists things would be ok. But you know Brain ever since Lehman’s blah blah blah “Fancy a bit to eat”
To which Brain responds; “you’re a good mate, and mates look after each other”
And low and behold a few weeks later - chaos, the banks are bust. Shock andHorror. “I must look after my mates and protect the tax payer” But mates are mates, lets guarantee the whole fu@king lot; that will fix everything and no one can give out as we have NO TIME. The country is doomed if I don’t do something. Fu@k, Seanie did say something about this a few weeks ago, what was, i should have went easy on the pint a porter
Anyone for a drink lads? the titanic is on later
