Handbrake Help

I'm trying to get avis onto my ipad and heard that handbrake is the way to go. Yesterday I downloaded the latest handbrake release onto my Windows XP PC and used it to convert two ~300MB avis to MPEG4 using the Ipad presets available on the right side of the handbrake GUI. The conversion seemed to work ok (although it took about 40 minutes for each file) but when I tried to drag the new files onto itunes or directly into my ipad on itunes it wouldn't work, saying the ipad will not play this type of file. Can anyone help me out here?

It's always worked fine for me on the iPhone 3GS and 4 - don't have an iPad. If file size isn't a major issue you could always try oplayer - lets you play avi and mkv files with no conversion (there's a lite version too).

Didn't think you could drag and drop anymore, I certainly cant

I now just use the add to library in the toolbar.

Have you set Handbrake to convert for iPad

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

CineXPlayer works well too, nice interface and plays most AVI files. The benefit is the time saving on converting the files. They are synced to your device through iTunes very easily.

VLC player does the same. Doesn't handle HD vids very well but SD avis are fine

VLC player has been pulled from the app store http://iphonehelp.in/2011/01/09/apple-pulls-vlc-player-from-app-store/ but there's loads of other media players on the app store.

I agree I've been using CineXplayer and since the update a few months ago, there's been no issue with any of the AVI files I want to play.
Slightly off topic, I downloaded iSkysoft iMedia converter when it was free a few weeks ago (thanks Bargain Alerts forum:D) and that's been working great at converting DVDs directly in to mp4, which you then just add to your library.

I'd also recommend vlc. I use it on the iPhone 4 and love it. Even though it is gone from the appstore, it seems to be available from the vlc site itself still
