Hi Guys, anybody here got any info regarding tax renewal on vans. Van driver myself and I'm told you now need a whost of forms incl a signed declartion form that you will not under any circumstances use your van for any form of social, domestic purposes. My van is due for yearly renewal end of this month so just wondering what the story is?

I have recently taxed a small van, albeit in the county council offices in Tramore. It was my first time taxing a van. I turned up with a vaild DOE cert and tax book. The woman at the counter gave me a declaration form which i needed to get signed at the local Garda station. On it, you are required to sign it and state what commercial use you need the van for. I filled it out, went down, asked the Garda to sign it, he didn't ask any questions, went back and taxed the van.
I am not VAT registered. Although you are legally declaring that you are not going to use the van for any domestic or social use, this is not being inforced and i cannot see how it will be.

Thanks JackM, my van is only due for motor tax renewal and I have owned the van for the past 3 years. I am not VAT registered either but have been told you need to supply a VAT number along with the declaration of use form which of course, would be impossible, as I'm a sole trader and not VAT registered.

Maybe I've been misled or misinformed. Eitherway, many thanks for input/advice.

Where they ask for your vat number , just fill in your pps number. If its going to be taxed in Naas or Clondalkin they dont ask any questions.

If they ask for Vat No. and you can't provide it ask for
    The Other Options List...

One option will be Tax Clearance Cert...

    Go on to www.revenue.ie
    Click - Tax Clearance...
    Fill in PPS No.
    Click - Individual
    Click - IT/CH

When it arrives in the post head back to them and Tax It.

    Cheers Ja.
