I am looking to buy a new card for my phone(HTC Desire) would the £19.94 one do the job?Would there be any chance of getting it cheaper than this?

You'd need to get s micro SDHC card for use in your phone, so the second would do the job.

Being a class 2, it wouldn't be as fast as some cards (e.g. class 4 or 6), so you might find it's a little slow in transfers (I'd personally go for a class 4 or above). Depending on what you're using it for, it might suit you just fine.

You can get it cheaper from sites like dealextreme/focalprice, but there's always big risks with fake cards not being the claimed size/speed, so there's a risk if you go for the 'cheap' ones. For an official card, it's a good price (possibly is better out there, but I don't know any off the top of my head).

That's a Micro SD card you have linked to. The OP's post is about a regular non-Micro SD.

    The price for SanDisk 16GB SDHC Card Class 4 is £13.99 & £1.95 P&P = £15.94 delivered :D

Is the speed for a class 2 SD card the same as the speed for a class 2 Micro-SD card?

i.e. are the classes and speeds for SDs the same as the classes and speeds for Micro SDs?

I bought a 16GB ByteStor Class 10 for £15.39 from Amazon a few days ago (I got free delivery because I bought something else with it). If you need a faster card than a class 4 then it's worth looking at.

I used to find it very tempting to buy high class (class 6 / class 10 etc) memory cards made by the lesser-known brands at much cheaper prices. However, after a bit of research online (reading dozens of people's reviews and comments on different brands) I concluded that SanDisk are the most reliable, and I now refuse to buy any memory device which isn't made by the most reliable company because I feel it's too big a risk to take. I have, in the past, had memory devices completely f.uck up on me and I've lost lots of data. So I will only be going with SanDisk from now on. I would recommend buying the cheaper/lesser-known brands with a lot of caution and at your own risk, in case your data gets f.cuked up.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken. :P

But the Amazon deal for the Micro SDHC is better than the mymemory one.

Good value Duracell 16GB Class 4 MicroSDHC for £19.69 delivered (about €24). Branded Duracell, made and being sold by Dane-Elec.

I think the lowish price may be because the packaging says Class 2, but it is Class 4 (per the Q&A on the eBay page linked above).

I wonder who makes these for Duracell.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but isn't the answer in the post you quoted?

Duracell is the brand, not necessarily the manufacturer.

Oh I'm sorry, I misread that post. You're right. Dane-elec. Hmmm. Never heard of them.

French company - had (or maybe had) a plant in Galway (Spiddal?) up to recently. Reasonably good reputation in flash memory products. Like most suppliers I'd say their stuff is probably now made in Korea or China. Better than no-name stuff, anyway.

Eh...... Dane-Elec :D (as far as I can tell). That's who the eBay seller is, and from their website (UK one, not FR) they recently signed a big deal with Duracell.

Edit: Sorry, had posted this reply from my phone before I saw the other replies.

In the interim I got my Duracell card, which I had ordered last week. Now to give it a bit of use... I'm hoping for good things from it - time will tell. It was the cheapest Class 4 from a reputable name that I found when I searched last week.

Where I saw their connection with Duracell (it was on their FR main site)
Dane-Elec will be promoting its partnership with Duracell at CES 2011 by showing Duracell® memory
    cards and Flash Drives.

I bought a Sandisk Extreme III 16Gb sd card about 6 months ago.Not cheap.
I've used it about 5-6 times in total .
I was transferring some files onto a laptop this week and the card stopped being recognised. Its fried now.
I wont be buying a large SD card again, its not worth the risk.

That is not good. Maybe the risk of file destruction is higher than I thought, no matter which manufacturer's product you choose.

I might go for a slightly cheaper option actually. I can just imagine the horror of spending loads on a good manufacturer, and then getting royally screwed by it. Technology can be a right pr ick sometimes.

I was raging when it happened, couldnt believe it.
I have used loads of sd cards, micro sd cards, flash drives over the years and stuck them into pcs and removed them repeatedly, mostly without using the Safely Remove Hardware option.Never had any issues .
I wasnt even transferring files ,just popped the card in and the machine didnt detect it.
The card posted in the op looks good though,I wouldnt recommend paying more than 20 euro for an sd card, its too risky.
