Starlet Door locks

    Howdy do,
    long story short;
    Keys fall out of pocket while adjusting parcel shelf (as one of the mounts continually moves but thats another story) anyway, keys fall out parcel shelf adjusted so boot will close properly and down goes the boot gently enough to click, locking the keys inside..:rolleyes: :(

    Then through a friends AA cover, a local recovery truck arrives and thank goodness manages to pull up the button on the drivers side.

    The issue is before that, the recovery guy tried a narrow key and vigoursly tried to open the door with said key, now my own key will not operate the door lock and it seems the same thing had been done on the passenger side door lock as to use the key in it nearly requires a twisting force which feels like going to the point of snapping the key so only easy way of accessing the car now is via the boot

    I've got quotes for door locks, cheapest being 65quid. Reckon I should buy the second hand door locks and bring the car to the local Toyota dealer for fitment?

    Cheers
    Brian

    You could try a breakers for a pair of door locks and have two keys for the car.... one for the doors and one for the boot and ignition.

    Or you could go the full hog and get the boot lock together with both doorlocks and an ignition barrel and have them all on the one key.

    Fitting is easy for all by removing the door card, detaching the cables and undoing the clip holding the lock barrel in place.

    Replacing the ignition barrel is slightly more complicated. You have to get it to position 1 and then push in a pin on the ignition housing to remove the barrel. Its a while since I did one!!

    Cheers, dont mind using two keys as I'd prefer to keep the ripping bits out to a minimum. Think I'll go for the breakers offer so (door locks and keys for 65 quid) and try replace them myself if its fairly straightforward as you say :)

    I'd complain to the AA about the 'work' that was carried out on the car. They may take the repair on board.
