Thinking about iphone on 3?

I am on Meteor network at the moment and have no issues at all. I am only on a monthly contract so am free to change to whatever I want. I really want an Iphone but refuse to pay big money. Is iphone 3 or 4 the better option? What are main differences? Will iphone 3 become obsolete soon?

Which network is offering the better deal for changing? Three seem to be but what is the coverage and service like? If I do change I will be back into 12/24month contract so I want to make right decision.

Also wondering if Meteor would be up to doing anything to keep me as a customer especially if I go back into contract. They don't advertise the iphone but I do know they have them.

Thanks for that. From what I have read I think I will stay with Meteor as I have never had any issues with them. I may forget the whole iphone thing all together.

As far as data goes I wouldn't touch 3. I was recently with them and used the Internet browsing bundle for €4.99 per month for 500Mb of data. If you use up this bundle either by it expiring or exceeding the data cap, you will be considered outside the bundle and will be charged normal tariff:

    three.ie charge €0.99 per Megabyte!!

This happened to me once and it wiped €30 of credit from my phone in a matter of hours. After this outrage, I moved to a different operator with far superior terms.

I'm in a similar position op, was considering moving from meteor to three to get an Iphone but I've heard mixed views on their coverage/customer service.
But don't think I'll get a smart phone with meteor either. on pre pay it's 20.48 euro per MB!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i signed up to three on a 24 month contract at €60 a month and i get 2GB extra (on top of my 650 flexiunits) data download a month with no bundle. If you manage to go over that using the 3G network and not a WIFI network then really and truly you should just get broadband installed at home. Got the I Phone 4 for free for signing up.

I hear the battery life isn't great on the I phone 3, 4 isn't too bad depending on usage. 8 hours overnight 2% battery used when not in use. Played a game for three hours and 70-80% of the battery gone. Personally i am fairly happy with it.

Only downside to the phone is flash player will not work on them so frustrating.

very happy with my €40 a month contract + 4GB data (took the extra 2gbs just in case :) )
Was just in the UK and I could happpily browse away and ring people knowing it wasn't costing me anything extra...once you're on another 3 network it just uses your package as normal and I definitely can't fault that..
so far very happy with 3

    ...
As regards either the iphone 3 or 4 if money is scare go for a 3gs...but then again getting the iphone 4 on a 18month contract only cost me €319..
over an 18 month period it's only going to cost me bout €70 extra over someone who got it on pay as you go and tops up by €20 a month..
for that extra money I'm getting way more calls, 4GB of data each month so definitely worthwhile to go bill.

Switched from Vodafone to 40 a month, no problems. Best deal I ever did.

Sc@recrow, I'm going to Italy next week, to avail of 3 Like Home do I just switch to 3 Italia and I'm good to go with no charges?

All you had to do was queue bundles of 500mb. 3 make it so easy to keep an eye on your usage, there was no need at any time for you to waste your money in this wise. One bundle replaces the previous one, seamlessly.

Don't blame Three because you're the simpleton that went way over limit. Every network will literally crucify you for going over the limits. This is very much a case of suck it up. It was entirely your fault.

As a Three customer, I can't fault them. Their customer service staff are a bit scripted but that's because they have a manual in front of them. I've only had to ring up Three two or three times when having my number ported over. I don't ever need to ring customer service anymore.
