Superstars--Chris Masters and JTG defeated Chavo Guerrero and Curt Hawkins. Fun back and forth match, Masters won with a Masterlock on Chavo.

Smackdown opened with Kofi celebrating his title win from last week. Jack Swagger interrupted, which led to-
Kofi Kingston defeating Jack Swagger. Not sure if this was a title match. Fun back and forth match, Kofi won with the SOS, but it appeared the ending was botched when Swagger didn't kick out at the right time.

Next, they filmed the opening and pyro. Del Rio came out and put himself over and talked about winning the Rumble. He was interrupted by R-Truth, who was interrupted by Dashing Cody Rhodes, who was interrupted by Rey Mysterio. A brawl was broken up by Teddy Long, which led to--
Rey Mysterio and Rtruth defeated Cody Rhodes and Alberto Del Rio. Another fun back and forth match, Rey won after a 619 and top rope splash onto Rhodes. Mysterio slipped off the rope performing the splash, and laughed it off afterward.

Trent Barretta beat Drew McIntyre. Drew dominated the match, was looking to Gorilla press Barretta over the top, when he slipped off for a quick roll-up win.

McIntyre attacked Barretta in the back, but stopped when Kelly Kelly walked in. He apologized and told her he had aggression issues, and she told him she didn't like being around people who cause others pain, and told him to grow up.

Wade Barrett vs Big Show went to a no contest. When Big Show had the upper hand, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel stormed the ring to help Wade. Ezekiel Jackson also showed up and joined in on the beat down. They all joined hands and celebrated together.

Beth Phoenix defeated Michelle McCool. McCool controlled most of the match and worked over Beths injured knee. Finish came when Beth went for the Glam Slam and Michelle rolled through for a pin, but Beth rolled back through for the win. Layla and Michelle are both great looking women, and Beth is pretty hot too.

Cutting Edge with special guests Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero. Lots of back and forth and jabs at Vickie. She gets amazing heat, I could barely hear when she talked, and I was front row. She said Dolph was a real man, and showed footage of Edge making out with Alicia Fox the day before he married Vickie. Edge said he also had some footage to share, and showed AJ and Primo walking in on Dolph and Kaitlyn making out 2 months ago. Edge knocked Dolph out of the ring. Vickie slapped him several times, and he looked to spear her, but was pulled from the ring and beat down by Dolph. He and Vickie stood over Edge and made out to close the show. Very good segment.

I wonder if it will be Nexus:Originals on SD, with Punk's new breed on RAW, or will they go with a different gimmick on SD. If they go with the Nexus theme it will be interesting to see how they justify Barrett basically running scared from Punk on RAW.

I reckon it would be good if they could build it towards a Punk vs Barret, Nexus vs Nexus angle down the road, but they would need Punk and his Nexus crew to go over Cena for that to happen, and I don't see it happening.

What i find odd is that I would actually say the SD version of Nexus looks stronger - granted I would take Punk over Barrett, but the other 3 members are stronger on SD i think.

Looks like they are going to have Nexus on both shows. i wonder if this is the start of the 'higher purpose for the Nexus' they hinted at months ago? By which i mean taking over both shows.

It would seem odd for that to be the case as the move of Barrett to SD would be very hard to explain as being part of a plan. He had his leadership stolen away from, was screwed out of a title match at the Royal Rumble and headed off to the 'B' show with his tale between his legs.

If they wanted a united Nexus on both shows (part of the higher purpose) they could have written it a lot better.

Eh it's wwek we are talkin abotu here....it's probably the best they could come up with! :p

    one thing i noticed:
McIntyre attacked Barretta in the back, but stopped when Kelly Kelly walked in. He apologized and told her he had aggression issues, and she told him she didn't like being around people who cause others pain, and told him to grow up

Eh.....he's a wrestler love, good luck with that!

I agree that SD's nexus looks stronger, i have been really impressed with slater since he started he has come on leaps and bounds, and gabriel has always been strong imo! (and we all know about wade)

kicking barratt off Raw and giving punk nexus was the way they chose to get wade on to undertaker territory without disbanding nexus altogether.

It was 'A' way, not the only way.

They could have done a story where Barrett brought the 'originals' to SD, and Punk took up the reins on RAW. That would have set up Nexus/Barrett vs Taker on SD and still would have allowed Nexus/Punk vs Cena on RAW. It would also still have allowed the potential for a Nexus vs Nexus feud at some point - Survivor Series 2011 maybe.

As things have been done, Barrett just looks like a weak coward who was kicked out by the Nexus on RAW.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

Yeah your right, there were a few options. I think this way was the most straight forward way that meant Punk and Wade didnt have to go into a big feud taking weeks.

I rather him that way. A heel who got screwed by a heel.
If he was screwed by a face (like Cena) then he would have his tail between his legs, Imo.

Has Teddy or Vickie arranged for Wade, Slater and Gabriel to be on SD

True - it would have needed a bit more time on RAW to make his jump to SD not look like it was cause of the beating Cena gave him, but now (to me) it just looks like he got pushed off a cage and left. He didn't fight to get his main event standing back on RAW, didn't fight to get his title match back (would have got it if not for Punk), didn't fight to retain leadership of Nexus - he got pushed off the cage and left. It just seems really, really weak.

One way they could redeem it is to build the feud between Barrett and Punk via promo's on the two shows. Have it seem like it is also Barrett vs Punk while Punk is trying to concentrate on Cena. Then have Barrett help Punk in a couple of PPVs time - so only after a few months is it shown that Punk and Barrett had this plan all along. During this time, you would need to be building Punk/Nexus and Barret/Nexus on the two shows, so when they join forces they are a legitimate power on both shows. Then you could reveal the higher power.

What I would love to see is for it all to come together at WM with Barrett vs Taker and Cena vs Punk - have Punk and Barrett win (Barrett with help from Punk to his 'confusion', then Punk win with help from Barrett with the two celebrating) and a tease of the Nexus explanation then, maybe reveal it properly on RAW the following night.

Good scenario, but i would think that WWE will go the opposite way.
Both guys getting involved in each others match, leading to punk/wads losing their respective matches.

Probably, just as people would have loved (well, the older generation) a Cena heel turn in joining nexus, the WWE won't do the good guy loses the BIG one. Oh well.

Isnt big Dave returning maybe he is the higher power, Punk did mention him as a friend

I don't see how even the WWE could try to convince anyone that Batista is the mastermind behind anything, at all, ever.

HHH would be a far more likely mastermind, but I don't see them going that route - can't see them teaming HHH and Punk.

They could go down the route that it was all a hoax, and that the screwing out of a title shot was Barrett getting his beat-down "initiation" into the new Nexus a week earlier than the rest of the members. It's weak i know but I don't expect much more from WWE these days.

Get rid of Taker (Who should not lose his streak through interference) and replace him with Edge maybe? And then have the two pick up their brand's respective world title and have an Eddie/Benoit style celebration to close Mania with the twist it was all an elaborate plan to conqure WWE.

What am I saying. Two heels celebrating to close Mania. That won't happen...

Oh I dunno, didn't WM end on a "downer" a few years back when Stone Cold "made his deal with the devil"? I man can dream sure! :pac:

Sounds liek a pretty decent Smackdown. Wade's Nexus is lookign pretty sweet specially with the addition of Big Zeke. But I think in the long run, it will result in Punk's Nexus vs. Wade's Nexus (or whatever they are gonna be).

I wasn't too sure about the whole Wade attacking Big show thing, but after thinking about it, it makes perfect sense. There's probably gonna be a match in a week or two where Wade beats Show or he eliminates Show from the Rumble. This would lead to him bragging about taking out the largest man in the WWE.....................................cue lights out , bells and smoke...........................Enter Undertaker, leading to the match at WM.

    Wait, what?

    *Re-reads Spoilers*

Jesus, I missed that. That wasn't in the inital spoilers I read. That's actually an awesome move. Zeke makes a great bodyguard and rounds out SDexus perfectly. Wade as leader, the two lads as the tag team and Zeke as the giant bodyguard. Nice.

Im a little surprised they didnt bring back Skip for that role but Zeke does fit the mold of what they needed

Wouldn't be suprised to see Punk's Nexus getting Sheffield back after injury is worked out.

Still think they should have revealed Punk as the mastermind behind Nexus. That would have easily explained why Barrett went to Smackdown. Punk could have said something like "Good job, now take over Smackdown etc".

SD's appears to be the stronger nexus and yes that conclusion is 100% based on the fact David Otunga is in Raw's version

I think I read somewhere that Sheffield is back in fcw waiting for the right time to come back and i suppose testing if he is fully recovered. That would be interesting having Zeke on the smackdown one and Sheffield on raw one both as enforcer type roles. They will have to do something with the raw nexus because it down two men now. I’d imagine punk would either bring people back in or bring new people to make up for this next Monday.

I think Tarver was injured a while back i haven’t heard anything since, he may be in fcw at the moment, I'm not sure haven’t seen any future endeavours post about him.
Young is on raw but they don’t really put him on TV the last time I saw him on raw was when the locker room attacked nexus backstage as part of the cena fired (but didn’t miss a raw) angle.

I think Punk has ruined Nexus. That storyline on Raw where they had to endure punishment to be in the group (when Otunga has been bitching about Barrett's leadership for months) just seemed to me to be stupid, illogical booking. Otunga is the only original member on Raw and the group has effectively morphed into the SES 2. Lame.

At least on Smackdown my favourite members of the group are all there - Slater, Barrett and Gabriel, though I'm not happy with Jackson being in the group. I don't get the logic in that since he's not from a series of NXT or anything. Still, I like the idea of the two groups being at odds with each other and I shall be a proud supporter of the Smackdown Nexus. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,289 ✭✭✭parker kent

In fairness they had to do something different with Nexus as the original could go nowhere else after TLC. Some changes had to be made to make it viable. Moving to Smackdown is a good idea. But they could not just have them put their tails between their legs and run away from Cena. So maybe the Punk aspect has allowed that to happen in some other fashion.

there's still 4 in raw nexus and i think husky's got the enforcer role there

I'm watching Smackdown for the first time in two years, someone please explain the weird camera work and why Green Day do the theme song.

If it wasn't for Teddy Long and the edited in crowd noise I'd be sure this wasn't Smackdown at all.

Wade said he wanted to take over Smackdown, so why not recruit one of the most dominant guys on Smackdown?

Wonder what they are going to call themselves?

also Barrett, I hope that your theme is temporary, it absolutely sucks!

Smackdown Nexus looked pretty good. I hope this group will be treated more like equals, Wade as leader but the others not far behind him.

Its a shame they are not on RAW anymore but Smackdown needs them I think.

I liked Wades explanation that he always goes after the biggest guy.

I though Dolph came off well during the cutting Edge, he spoke well and of course Vickie was excellent as always. Beat down adds a nice bit of intensity to the feud for the rumble.

Rest of show was meh , couldn't get into the opening match. I did enjoy Kofi Swagger. No interest in Beth v LayCool, laycool just not the same without the title(s).

Not at all interested in Drew and Kelly Kelly together, I can't stand Kelly Kelly. But at least it gives Drew a storyline.

I like the song, but I don't think it fits with the show or wrestling in general. Just something about it that doesn't sit well with the product imo...

I'm not sure it's shown at night time on Saturdays but I'm pretty sure one of the Sky Sports channels shows it at around 3pm or so on Saturday.
