hey was wondering if this sounds about right.. €10 fuel gets me 40ish miles city driving around dublin in my 03 passat (TDI). anyone know if this seems about right.. im getting a good service done on it next week with a new fuel filter and the usual pre nct stuff, hopefully it might improve the mpg..

Dont sound good unless you were driving the ring out of it. How many litres was that.

You cannot judge fuel by city driving really. Any idea what MPG you get on a bit of a run?

Also, be wary of any pre NCT works. Put the car through the real test. That way, you wont be replacing stuff that might pass etc.

its about the adverage of around 7 or 8 liters, fuel being at around €1.38 per liter, just seems like i should be getting more then around 40 miles for my tenner lol:confused:

This is asked here all the time. You can't just say I get X miles for a tenner.

    • Fill the tank, reset your trip counter and drive for a couple of hundred miles.
    • Re-fill the tank and note the amount of litres you used.
    • Divide the litres by 4.54, take this figure and divide the mileage by it.

    This is your MPG.

You should be getting 50MPG in your passat, maybe about 42 or more if its all urban driving.

1.38 a litre and 40 miles for 10e = 25-27mpg, which is bad, but city driving drinks fuel.My diesel fabia used to do 25-35mpg when I was doing short journeys. If your stuck in 1st and 2nd gear for your journey then a diesel isnt going to be good on fuel.

I dont think there is anything wrong with your car, take it on a nice journey on some motorway and you will get 80 miles for your tenner.

Why cant you ask miles for a tenner?

    No difference

I cant remember ever filling my first cars tank.I used to put max 15e into.

    For a couple of reasons.

How do you know when you've used exactly a tenners worth?
How do you know if I get more or less diesel for a tenner than you?

Overall its a very inaccurate way of trying to calculate MPG or L/KM,
the only way to check it is to fill the tank.
