Work Experience and some help

Right well, I've recently gotten an interest in photography and have finally got myself sorted with a camera and stuff so I am looking to start taking it a bit further than an interest. I got a cannon 550d but only have the kit lense, ideally I'd like to be a sports photographer so I'd like some advise on what sort of lense I should get for that.

I've just finished a degree in multimedia and have a fair understanding with photoshop and the like but I haven't much experience in taking photos. I'm wondering if there is anyone that would be able to give me some work experience, as I said ideally I'd like to be in sports but any sort of experience would be great too, I've tried contacting the few photographers that I know of in the Navan area but they said they wouldn't be able to take anyone on at the moment. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Chris

Before you try to get work experience or start buying lenses (the singular form of which is "lens"), you should probably try to learn the absolute basics of photography.

If it is sports you want to shoot, then you have picked, prob the most expensive type of photography to do. You will need fast glass ( large aperature) of a constant F2.8 .... but it aint cheap. The canon 70-200mm 2.8 is a great place to start.
