Lookin to buy a car and I was told the peugeot 307 is a good car to buy by a mechanic. Saw a Peugeot 307 2005 car for sale the other day. Is it a decent car to buy?

he's either lying, or he's a terrible mechanic.

Hehehe. A mechanic told a funny.

Seriously OP, avoid the 307. Avoid like the plague.
According to some sources the 307 suffers from below average build quality and reliability, it was placed 158th out of 159 cars in United Kingdom tested in the Top Gear Survey of 2005[1], It also ranked No.99 out of 113 2-3 year old cars tested by TÜV (German Technical Inspection Association) in 2007[2], and it featured at the bottom of the German Automobile Club breakdown statistics for 3 - 5 year old small family cars three years later.[3] [4]

    +1

I drove one once and hated it. The gearbox in particular was awful. I've also heard that it's riddled with faults. I'd steer well clear.

There are a lot of cars in that segment and most of them would be a better buy imo.

I had a 1.4 diesel xs model for 4 years clocking up over 100k miles and I never had any trouble with it. I found a very comfortable spacious car....

Have an 06 1.6hdi (from new) 93000km to date, only thing that was changed outside of service were two head light bulbs.

Very nice car to drive and get over 300km for 20 euro diesel everytime.
