looks a LOT better than the s4 to start with anyways, doesnt look all clustered together, looks nicely spaced, nice finish on it too. mixer section looks decent.

being pioneer though expect a 1500€ price tag.

EDIT - The DDJ-T1 is expected in stock in February at a price of £899 while the DDJ-S1 will be released in March at £1099

    i take it back..

Between the S4 / Denon / and Pioneer we might have the first real contenders for a standardized club midi install system....
Is that possible though? I don't know much about Midi controllers but doesn't every body use their own mapping layout?

Own mapping yes perhaps, but at least if the equipment is standard the software on your laptop can be laid out anyway you like.. once you plug in the mapping is controlled by Traktor (so long as the midi channel hasn't been screwed with).

    Wouldn't agree with junk but:
The DDJ-T1 is expected in stock in February at a price of £899 while the DDJ-S1 will be released in March at £1099

That is fairly ludicrous money for a controller.

    Two Brochures:

    http://www.pioneerdjusa.com/images/gear/pdf/DDJ-S1_LowRes.pdf

Can anyone spot the £200 difference? If anything the S1 seems to be a lower spec (Less channels) but with ITCH which probably justifies the extra cost?

That is fairly ludicrous money for a controller.

Its still a bucketload cheaper than a single CDJ2000 FFS !! (definelty overpriced junk) ... and round the same as 2x350's

Seriously Its not "THAT" bad a price, compared to the S4 or Denon its a lil higher .. and it does come with what looks like a similar version of Traktor to the S4 which would be a few hundred on its own anyhow.

I don't understand the price hike for itch, probably a combo of software and hardware licencing perhaps.

It may be that Pioneer may be trying to use their clout in the industry and make things "Club Standard" which I would only see as a good thing especially in the controller market which is just flooded with controllers that do like 80% of what you need or want, and then need something else or compromise on toys to do what you want (I hate soft-takeovers and dont consider it an option).

BTW I am no fanboy of Pioneer DJ gear, they never made the BEST cd decks either IMHO (Post 500s Series) or Mixers (Personally think the sound is sh1te) The Denons with platters were a bucketload nicer to use BUT one thing Pioneer DID do is revolutionize CD DJing.

Its in no way perfect, if i'm controlling 4 decks I dont want to have to start layer switching between sources.. but its one of the closest controllers to what i'd like (apart from NS7/V7's) which is a real honest to god "Full size" midi controller with decent sized "i can get drunk now" style buttons :P

I really cant imagine the likes of Cox, Buuren etc.. playing on CD's if a Denon 2000f was still the norm:p

Who knows this might be the start of a CD genocide .. I doubt it, but they do have the clout in the industry right now to start it.

Quick question comes to mind with the discussion of having a standard controller in clubs.
How would it work when DJs are changing shifts? No chance of the new guy mixing his first track into the other guy's last is there?
Unless there's two controllers going through a mixer (2 x 4 deck controllers  think of the possibilities!) the music is going to have to stop while laptops are unplugged, yes?

I'd imagine they would both play off the same laptop. You'd sort of have to or as you said you'd be looking at a twin set up.

    Or just play CD?

    Or just play CD?

or Ipod / Pad / Phone and get rid of those spinny silver things altogether :P

One thing that seems overlooked which I think is a "must have" is the option is the ability of being used as standalone mixer unit like the Denon and VMS4. With an analogue mixer available if the computer for any reason crashes, WITHOUT the need for the clubs inhouse one.... hmmmm, there's always something obvious missing, grrrr.

I thought one of their players has an option of dual USB that can be plugged into 2 laptops with a takeover switch?
