Looking to get a G&G GR15 Raider Tan version this week and just wondering what peoples thoughts on the long or short barrel are? First gun so I'm not sure which would be better. I will use it for both indoor and outdoor, probably a bit more indoor. Any comments appreciated, also any comments on this actual model very much appreciated. Thanks

The Raider is a great gun and an excellent choice for your first AEG.

If it's mainly for indoor airsoft conventional wisdom states the standard length would be the best option but I don't think the L is that much longer than the standard so that may be a better compromise if you also want to play open outdoor sites as it has a carbine-length 357mm barrel compared to the CQB-ish 233mm barrel in the standard Raider.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Ya looks like really nice gun in the tan and all reviews seem to be good. Checked there and overall length of the L version is only 114mm longer so not much in it. Just have to decide if I want the bit more length or not and where to buy it from as there are a few places in Ireland doing combos of gun, battery and charger. Suppose longer barrel can only add to the gun and not take anything away.

How much does barrel length affect the distance or accuracy of bb's?

Not noticalbe, the hopup unit and rubber does all/most of that work. When people first started playing airsoft here in 2006 they noticed what seemed like strange things like TM P90s firing at 260-280 fps out-ranging others with 300-320fps clone M14s. An M14 has roughly twice the barrel length of a P90 but the TM hopup unit has better than the china soft hop unit at sub 1J power levels.

A tight bore barrel will make a bit of difference in accuracy and very small fps increase over bog standard 6.08mm barrels.

If you get a like for like equipped AEG. Say a G&G M16 with a 510mm barrel and an G&G M4 with a 360mm barrel, they will both have about the same range and accuracy unlike their real counter parts.

I know a couple of raider owners and they are the same short or long, I think.the raider used to ship with both barrels in the box, but its only the outer barrel, the inner "shooting" barrel stays the same.

I prefer tjr longer one purely as it looks better to my eye. It makes no odds usage wise as its a nice compact gun anyway.

Barrel length has nought to do with range in AEGs.

What longer barrels do achieve is a higher level of shot to shot consistency due to them maintaining the desired flight path for slightly longer. For greater consistency use a longer barrel. For greater range use a better hop up with a tightbore barrel

    Thanks for all the replies.

I ordered the short barrel tan model from eirsoft.ie yesterday evening. Hopefully have it tomorrow to test it out.
