Setting up a College Investment Club

    Hey,

I just posted this thread over on my college's forum.

I'm just looking to find out if anyone here has experience with investments clubs, either as a member or as a founder. Are they a good idea? I'd mainly see it as an opportunity to gain experience and build on business and stock market knowledge rather than as a means of making any significant profit (although a profit would be nice :D)

Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone here might have any recommendations or advice on starting such a club.

    Thanks

I suppose a good place to start would be to have a look at investment clubs currently out there. They could provide a model on which you could base your club. I'm not sure if there are any investment clubs in Galway, although I know there are a few here in Dublin. I've never actually joined one myself though.

It's certainly a great place to get started in the investment world if you get it up and going. I'm sure it would take a significant amount of time and effort to set up though, but I'm sure if succesful, it would look fantastic on your CV.

There was a Student Managed Fund recently set up here in Trinity. Maybe you can ping those lads a mail and see if they can steer you in the right direction.

Send as many mails asking as many questions (within reason) to as many people as you can, no harm in asking :D
