I went into social welfare office today to sign on.
I was told that I need parents income details as i am living at home.
I was in and out of work for the past 2 years.
    I am over 25.

I was told an inspector will be out to look at my application.

I thought that if you are over 25 your dole application is not tested on your parents income??

If you are over 25 your parents means are not taken into account. Did you apply before you were 25??

edit.... sorry did not see that you have only applied.... this is ridiculous... contact your swo about this

ya no i applied in 2009 and was denied it.

I shortly after went back to college and have been working since until now.

They told me to refill in a form and sign on next week.
Now I am 26 and yes still looking for parents income.

Is it because I applied b4?

I presume this is a repeat claim. If you are over 25 your parents means are not relevant to your claim. You should query this with the office.

"If you are 24 years of age or under and you are living with a parent or a step-parent in the family home, some of your parents' income will also be taken into account in the assessment for Jobseeker's Allowance. The Department call this an assessment of the 'benefit and privilege' you get from living with your parents*

The above is what appears on welfare website.

my form asked that - and as far as i remember there were questions about their mortgage. I just left those sections blank and nobody ever mentioned it

All forms will have this section on them, when I applied for OPF payment I was asked who lived in the house with me and what their earnings are. I filled in the names and just put N/A in the earnings sections. If your over 25 you won't be asked to provide the details. (I was 27 when I applied)

This is called the Benefit and Privilege assessment, and is the means test for JA and Supplementary Allowance payments but only if you are under 25 and living at home, then your parents income will be taken into account for the means test.

It doesnt apply to people 25 years of age or over on JA living at home in their parents house.

Here is a link which has a online book which explains your entitlements, Benefit and Privilege is explained in the book they can also be contacted by phone, I think there number is 018560088.
