Taxis in South America

    Hi

I am heading to South America in May. The trip is being organised through Trailfinders and while the prices for flights & hotels are very good but they are quoting what look like high prices for airport transfers (note the prices I quote are for 2 people). Just looking for some info on Taxis in the following places:

Rio: Did a bit of research online, seems easy enough to get a taxi or transfer from airport

Iguassu Falls: Being quoted €60 to the hotel (Das Cataratus), €78 back to the airport.

Buenos Aires: €72 to the hotel (NH Lancaster) and a mind boggling €118 from hotel to airport

I was just wondering would anyone have info on expected taxi fares in these cities, especially Iguassu & Buenos Aires.

    Thanks in advance

Taxis in Buenos Aires are all metered and quite reasonable. There are 2 airports in BA. Jorge Newberry Airport is very near to popular tourist hotel areas, so taxi fares are 20 mins or so to a popular area like San Telmo.

The other airport in the city is a way away from the centre and takes about an hour if I remember rightly.

In Iguacu you can get a bus from the centre of Puerto Iguacu (town where most accom is located on Arg side of the falls) to the park where the falls are.

For Buenos Aires, there are 2 airports Jorge Newbury (mainly dosmetic flights) and Pistarini (international) as the previous poster said.

If your arriving in Jorge Newbury, you will be close enough to the city to get a taxi to anywhere central. Taxis are fine although the drivers dont speak much English.

Pistarini is about 20 kms out, you can get a taxi (dont know of the price of that) or a bus (Manuel Tienda Leon) which was 45 Pesos when I was there last. They will drop you at your hotel via their bus terminal in the centre city.
