My 8GB micro SD card in HTC Desire HD suddenly stopped responding and I dont seem to be able to read any data of it? I have used it for ca 4 weeks, it has app 3.5GB data on it - I tried it on PC, and get a message - the SD card needs to be formatted? Any ideas?

Sounds like it might have to be wiped and start over. :(

And only yesterday I wanted to back up all my 300 photos - and did not do it  is there anyway to restore data from the card? And all the apps I have saved on it

What causes the data loss? The card is the one Vodafone supplied.

Their is software you can get, that would get a lot of photos from it, but dont think you will get the apps.

You need to get some software which can rebuild the FAT tables, as the data is most likely still there but not indexed to the file system. We use a couple of commercial products which work well but are expensive. Most decent local IT companies will do it for 20e or so

I tried some sim recovery softwares - nothing. I recon the card is gone. Its a samsung 8gb card, amazing that it just drops dead. I have ordered a sandisk 8gb card now, and will backup my data from now on...

How are you connecting the card to your pc, is it through the phone or a direct connection? If it's a direct connection, is it through an sd card adaptor or have you a card reader with a micro sd slot? Maybe you can try a different adaptor or card reader, perhaps that is what is giving the bad reading?

If you are sure that it is the card, did you re-format it before trying the recovery tools? If not, do so. The card mightn't be readable until you re-format it. I've had great success with sd card recovery tools before, it's worth it to keep trying.

Thanks, tried three different adapters, three PC's any many different USB slots / SD card slots - no response. I cannot even format the card, the PC's do not recognize it. One of the recovery programs identified some bad sectors on the card and thats all. I have a new 2GB card in the phone and are waiting for the new card to arrive.

Hi guys, hate to thread jack, but i have a similar problem. Got my desire 2 days ago, and today it stopped responding, turned it off and on again and the SD card is now bollixed, can't even reformat it, the desire gives me the option but doesn't do anything when i select it. Is the best option just to return the card to o2?

EDIT: Got it to recognize the card after rebooting the thing about 10 times, unmounted it from the settings and mounted it again and it's working again. Did a bit of a google search and this seems to be quite the common issue.

Back up your sd card, that's normally a sign of it dying.

Have you updated your phones software at all recently? Theres a thread on xda relating to people loosing sd card data just like you described with the last software update
