It's a bit short for a work event, in my opinion, otherwise it's quite nice. But that's a personal opinion, others may think that it's OK for a work event.

Work clothes should be on or just above the knee.

I agree with dudara, lovely dress but a wee bit short for a work event, tho the black tights might just save it. is there any other girls in you office/work that you could ask what they are wearing?

It really depends how formal it is and what you would wear on a normal work day tbh. Are there many heads of departments/higher management going, if there are then definatly go for on the knee or just below it, looks more professional.

I think it's a little short and 'going out-ish' for a work event too, to be perfectly honest.

I'd consider that dress to be too short for a work event. You'd be better to go with something that's knee length or just above the knee, and that covers your shoulders. Now that doesn't mean that it has to be boring, or 'old'. Something like this, this or this dress would be better, depending on how formal it is. The first is more dressy, but the others are less night clubby looking.

If it's evening, then you're better off to err on the side of caution to go for formal, without being black tie.

If you got the legs for it, go for it!!

I personally would wear it, with thick black tights I think it would be fine. Also the model wearing it is 5ft 9.5, so OP you're probably a bit shorter than her, making it longer? Knee length things make my legs look short so I would always go shorter but well covered up, ie tights etc, and a blazer would be nice with it too. And you are only young, I think that dress with tights would be better than the other girl's floor length dress, which is probably a bit much.

I think it will be fine as long as you are quite a bit shorter than the model. What I would be more worried about is the back to be honest. It's a lovely dress in genera though, just probably not for this occassionl!

It's a lovely dress but I agree that it is too short, looks a bit too "saturdays" for a work event.

I think it is a lovely dress. It has some lovely detail to the back that adds interest whilst remaining modest, and also a lovely color that catches attention [in a good way, not in a wtf is she wearing way].
Are you giving the presentation, or mingling with management. I think this is a slightly unusual dress, and people will remember the wearer so you will stick in their minds and make a good impression.
Considering you are going to be wearing thick black tights, I don't think it will look too short.

However I think it you will need to be careful what accessories you put with it, because this will ultimately decide the overall "look" you achieve.
If you notice in the catwalk video in your link, the model is wearing only a watch and nothing else.
The dress is a statement in itself and doesn't need much jewelery.
I think if you go with the big gold jewelery it might start to look like your going clubbing.
Also, I often think that long hair worn down is lovely, but can look more professional for work events if worn in some sort of upstyle, instead of loose and flowing.
The girl from the link is beautiful but looks more "sexy clubbing" than formal, but you could give the dress a completely different look with the tights, right shoes and handbag, and your hair done up.

I'd probably suggest black heels [but not absolute skyscrapers], and either simple stud earrings or delicate longer earrings-not hoops.

Other ideas for this dress on a night out partying would be turquoise or gold heels.
Or else nude heels, and pearl accessory.

Anyhow I'm rambling now, just throwing out a few ideas. I'm sure you will look nice. It's a great dress.:)

You can get the hair doughnut things in Penneys for 1.50 and a friend could do the rest.

I think it's a gorgeous dress too but too clubby for a work event, especially the way the back is so revealing.

I would wear a black blazer over it and black tights - that way you'll save it.

    Hiya,
The dress is gorgeous, but not work-appropriate. It's not the length, it's that it's backless.

It's a gorgeous dress, unfortunately it might be a little short for a work event. The best thing to do is to try and figure out the dress code, Might be best to play it safe with a longer dress.

    It's a beautiful dress!

To tone it down keep hair up (the side curl style you showed was lovely), makeup very minimal, simple ear rings, no necklace, maybe a small bracelet/delicate watch (nothing chunky), definitely thick black tights (60 den maybe) and most importantly simple not too high shoes!!

imo the choice of shoes can transform this dress into a nice appropriate outfit, that and dark tights, minimum makeup and minimum jewelery.

Maybe bring a cardigan/jacket too that looks nice with it to keep on if you feel uncomfortable once you get there

Stunning dress, I'd wear it (if I was 23 ) with thick black tights and a black blazer. Minimal makeup and simple jewellery like playgirl suggested. Well wear :)

It's a lovely dress, but I'd agree that it's a bit informal for a work event. You could try it with thick black tights..but there's still the chance that it won't really fit in with what others are wearing, and then you'll just feel uncomfortable for the night. I had the same prob a while ago in that I couldn't justify forking out on a dress I'd never wear again, but trust me, I was glad I bought it when I got to the event and everyone was dolled up to the max!

how tall are you? The model in the pic is 5'9.5" so if your shorter the dress will be longer on you and might be fine for a work event (Im short so I know on me that dress would be just above the knee). As itis it could be a bit short but to be honest it depends what kind of night out is it - as in is it a work function or a work party? If its a prty its fine but a work function I'd wear something more business like and a little longer.

That's what I was thinking. She asked for advice on whether it was too short and too informal, and when the majority of posters in this thread said yes it was too short and informal, she is still going to wear it regardless of what we say. What was the point in posting the thread IMO.

Anyways, the dress is lovely, it's probably not even that short but I would wear the hair down to try and cover the back of the dress.

Only after alot of people said too short, you cane back defending the dress so they offered a compromise as they knew you'd wear it.

What is the point of asking people is the dress ok if you cant change it?

Maybe the q should have been 'how do I make this dress work for a work do?'
