It shouldn't, but be wary of it. it depends on the volume of water sitting on the roof pressing down. You definitley have a leak in the shower somewhere. What did you actually do when you cleaned the shower trap. Did you unscrew the grate completely out of the tray?

No I just poured the mr.muscle liquid stuff down the shower drain, thing is it didnt do a very good job when i went for a shower cos there was water coming up to my ankles(not going down the drain quickly although its gone down since), could the acidy stuff in the drain cleaner have eaten through the pipes i wonder? This friggin house is the money pit!my dog is lying on the couch under the leaky ceiling, best move her i think...

Your tray isnt sealed. The water is going out at the grout and tiles where it meets the tray. Dont use the shower, needs to dry out. Remove the bottom row of tiles, and get it sealed.

You will probably need need new plasterboard. The tiles might come off handy and might get away with reusing most of them.

Thanks Davey,it sounds like something we could prob do ourselves instead of getting a plumber to do it, thanks for getting back to me!:)

It might do,, but you may end up doing it again if not done right! Its very important its given time to dry out properly.

You should not use mr muscle in a shower trap and by the sounds of it it might be far worse than the tray not sealed.

A shower tray waste is designed to be easy clean. You pop off the grate with a peb shaft and pull all the gunk out. Simple...No chemicals.

Post some pictures taken at the waste the side of the tray where it meets the wall and the leak down stairs.
