Gay Friendly Insurers.

Perhaps this could become a sticky thread if it works out? I was just getting car insurance today with Aviva. They have a deal where you can get a discount if a family member or partner has insurance with them. Now it wasn't relevant to me but I was wondering if that included same sex partners?

So, basically, which health/home/motor insurers and life/mortgage assurers provide the same discounts to same sex couples? Are there any which give couples discounts and down recognise gay couples?

Mods: I doubt there's a libel issue here as it's immediately verifiable whether or not a given agency offers discounts to gay couples.

Interesting question as to whether the new CP legislation covers things like that. I would imagine that partner means partner, even if that is "civil" partner. They'd have a hard time defending otherwise in court.

At the moment they (Aviva) seem to accept partner as meaning someone you date, so no requirement to marry. I'd also wonder about mortgage protection insurance.

Edit. Removed not properly sourced statement.

Unsure about Aviva but my best mate and her longterm partner have health and car insurance with Quinn on some kind of couples or household deal. They aren't CP'd so idk if that makes a difference.

Statistically, gay men do die younger and I'd wonder if these agencies factor that in.

Hmm, I had read the conclusion of a study by Paul Cameron on the subject, but he now appears to be a right wing nut bar. I'll look for something more solid. You can read about it here, but I've become far less convinced.

Lifesitenews is pretty much a crazy person site - and Paul Cameron is pretty much a crazy person! The American Psychological Association booted his ass in 1983 for ethics violations. He then set up the "Family Research Institute", a sample from their website can be found here. Insane!

    Woohoo, long live the gays!

I recently got car insurance with Aviva and when I asked about the cheaper insurance with a partner you live with, the lady said "she ...or he" in a sweet straight-person trying to be super-inclusive way, so I'd say they're up for it.
