Has anyone here heard of scheme where you can take a lad on part time upto a certain amount days without affecting their benefits,
The reason being I want to make sure there is enough work for said person before they sign off as I believe there is quite a lead time to sign back on etc.

IF so which department looks after it. As I rang FAS today:rolleyes: who told me to ring social welfare, who told me to ring revenue:rolleyes: which put me on permanent hold

Never heard of a scheme that won't affect a benefit . Take a peek at the URL below , it may help you to take on an employee and keep him .

Yeah info is very hard to find which is crazy when you think of the times we are in. Any here is something someone else kindly sent over

"Re taking some-one on, I think your best option is the Fas Work Placement Programme which allows you to take some-one on for a maximum of 9 months (you don't pay them and they continue to claim their social welfare). There is a phone number on the website to call if you're interested - 1800 611 116.

If you then decide that you would like to keep this person on, there are currently 2 schemes running which may be of interest:
    1. Employer Job (PRSI) Incentive Scheme - have a look at the document SW128 on the Department of Social Welfare website - by applying for this, you may be exempt from paying Employer's PRSI for 12 months.
    2. Revenue Job Assist - See document IT58 and IT59 on the Revenue website - this entitles the employer to a double wage deduction in the tax computation for 3 years and the employee would also be entitled to additional tax credits for 3 years."
