    Hi again,
it's all happening today!. first the printer giving me trouble and now when I used google search to find some help with it 'Wham'. It's all flashing warnings all over the place lol. The screen lit up with dancing warnings all over the place the only real thing I remember is a dialog box over most of it from AVG8 I think saying something about Trogens etc.

I immeadiately disconected from the net, closed all programmes etc.
Then ran up to date AVG scan, nothing.
Then ran up to date Spybot, nothing.
Heres a screen shot of that dialog box.attached.
Haven't seen anything like that for a couple of years.
Back on net now and the computer seems ok. However I intend to update windows in a moment and scan again with Malwarebytes. I am hoping that nothing sinister got in.
    Any coments welcome please...

Its obviously one of those days...and its not over yet lol:confused:

avg 8 has been out of support for a good while now and cant recieve a lot of updates, so no it wasnt up to date, and spybot hasnt been any good in years, just use mse, malwarebytes should have found anything

EDIT: The picture tells 1000 words, I thought you had scanned with AVG8, spybot is still no good and id use something else.

unistall avg and install microsoft security essentials.
and restart it in safe mode and do a full scan.

Check the screen shot, there's no trojans, it's a pop-up ad faking the alerts.

Edit: in the AV8 (not AVG8) message that is, not the Windows Security Alert dialogue.

yep it's AV8SCAN malware, not an AVG window. malwarebytes should get of it for you.

Thanks for the replies. I did scan with updated malwarebytes and found nothing.
Its windows XP with firefox by the way.
So If I've got this right it was only a pop up ad and nothing malicious got into my computer because when I saw it I disconneted from net and started scanning.
I'm not really that tech savvy so I am hoping that all is ok.
    Thanks again everyone.

Follow the instructions here. Don't worry, they're not as scary as they look ;) Just take your time.

When you're done, remove any existing antivirus software and install MSE or Avast instead.

P.S. Can mods please move these sort of threads to the Virus & Malware Removal forum? Thanks.
